Today's lessons takes a look at getting started with chord tones. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks - Andy

Great lesson, Andy! Thank you for sharing the detail required to master chord tones. I have been working through the Arpeggios for Blue Bossa. Can finally play all the notes of the Arpeggios, but still need to know each note and intervals as I play them. Just need to enjoy the journey and not give up, hey! 😅

Definitely - enjoy it, it's not a race. Try and sing them as you play them and learn to feel the quality of each interval.

Great lesson, Andy. This video clearly demonstrates the need for a teacher; all too often, we aren't shown the roadmap of improvisation by other jazz guitar instructors like you have done. Thanks!

I like looking at things in bite size pieces, it takes a lot of the anxiety out of learning these concepts.

Hi Andy. By coincidence I discovered your channel. Can you explain in a clear way using the minor melodic scale over dominant 7 vhords please Best regards from the Netherlands
@jazzguitarwithandy3 жыл бұрын
I think the simplest thing to try is: Take a dominant chord and try the melodic minor off the following: A semitone above the root of the dominant A tone beneath A 4th above A 5th above For C7 it would mean: C#melodic minor Bbmelodic minor F melodic minor G melodic minor Each one gives you a different set of outside intervals.

Excellent basic knowledge. If you'll forgive a compulsive technical editor, at around 3:15 the fretboard diagram is missing the C on the G string, but there is a (perfectly correct) b7 on the fourth string.

No problem, thanks for pointing it out. I'm amazed I don't pick these things up when I'm editing!

I'd like to ask,what guitar are you playing,and the amp. I really like the sound of it.
@jazzguitarwithandy3 жыл бұрын
It's a Gibson L5 and a Fender Tonemaster Twin.

@@jazzguitarwithandy Great sound.

Hey Andy, a bit of an off topic query, what type of strings you have in the L5? the tone is bright and 'acoustic' like. not sure if you have the guitar plugged in an amp. I can never get a tone like that with flat wounds on my ibanez hollow body not even close, of course that's not a L5 ! just curious how much of a difference the string type makes in achieving this clear sound
@jazzguitarwithandy3 жыл бұрын
They are Thomastik bebop roundwounds. For me they are a bit brighter and bring out the acoustic tone a little more. I am using the amp but on low. What strings are you using?
@delpanos3 жыл бұрын
@@jazzguitarwithandy I use DAddario chromes flat wounds ECG23 in a couple of guitars. I may need to switch to round wounds on the hollow body to come closer to that Charlie Christian tone.
@jazzguitarwithandy3 жыл бұрын
@@delpanos I would, I don’t think flats came into use till the 50s or 60s. I use to use chromes. They are great value for money but I prefer Thomastiks nowadays.
@delpanos3 жыл бұрын
@@jazzguitarwithandy would these be Thomastik JS110 ?
@delpanos3 жыл бұрын
@@jazzguitarwithandy I went and got the Thomastiks JS110. they are flats but on another level , they match my hollow body guitar better than the DAddario ECG23, the gauge set is also different between the JS110 & ECG23 despite that in both sets the e string is a 10. I' m totally sold on the Thomastiks
