Great video as always - quick tip for all of you, do NOT be scared to use the English subtitles to understand the French. Lots of people think you are "cheating" if you use the English subtitles to understand the French, but they are wrong. Anything you can do to understand French, you should do. These videos are amazing because they give you a French short story, with English subtitles so you can build up your level from Beginner to Intermediate.

Stories like this are the absolute best for learning a language. The best tool I have ever come upon. It makes sense because most of us learn to speak our native language in our family home....and this includes, often, a family member sitting and reading aloud while we read along, picking up the words. Listen to each story multiple times. As the sounds become more familiar, adjust the speed to 1.5 or 2.0. That is the speed at which most natural French is spoken. I wish they had had this when I was first learning languages!!🎉🎉🎉 Would have saved so much time!

Great learning but even this is hard at the beginning to get off the ground. I will keep at it, I have been trying to learn this magnificent proud language for many years and this year I am going to crack. it! What makes it hard is that you need to know a HUGE amount to be able to make any conversation at all.
@lauriewarner48485 күн бұрын
@kirkster501… don’t give up, I am just starting at 70. You can only learn if you don’t give up. I did through the years, and am now on a consistent 120 day streak of Duolingo. This will be added in. Like I said you can only learn if you keep going. Good luck and have fun.

Omg really helped me a lot! I used this video to entertain myself when doing cardio at the gym; at first I thought i was gonna get bored easily because of the voice that’s slow. But It was the opposite! Through the repetition I was able to understand the words and because it was slow, I was able to understand almost everything ❤

YES. Sadly there is a thing where it has been modernised. I remember hearing that it would never happen as the French are strongly preserving their language because how beautiful it sounds. I guess the now generation don’t care about that.

This is amazing content! First the beautiful graphics catch your eye, but then you find that the stories are interesting and rich with useful vocabulary and grammar examples at just the right level. To make it more complete for me, it would be great if you could input the actual text into the KZbin soft subtitles, such that showing the transcript will display the same text, as the autosubs break up the sentences incorrectly, and sometimes miss or get the wrong words. Or just post the story text in the comments or a Google doc or on your own website. In addition to the listening practice, which I can do here, I like to copy/paste the sentences into a flash card program, and also extract the words I don't know well or not at all, and study both sentences and words in flash cards. In particular, I like to study them in both directions (i.e. fr/en and en/fr), including seeing the English sentences in the flash cards, and get to where I can translate them correctly, as my flash card program lets me configure all kinds of stuff like that, and do things like chorusing, repeating the sentences while I speak along and slower or normal speed. Also, it would allow Language Reactor to work better with the better transcript. Maybe you could even make a website that does that kind of thing. Also, I guess that with the name ListenEF, the E and F are for English and French, so you probably have plans to do other languages. I see you do have Spanish as well. Do you list them all somewhere? Any plans to do Japanese/English? Thank you so much for this! I'm so glad this video showed up in my listening practice KZbin search.
@JTSoftware12 күн бұрын
Oh, having joined, I see I can get the sentences from the PDFs. Unfortunately, copy/paste from PDFs can be problematic because they will break up the longer sentences. Also, the groups of sentences are interleaved, mixing French and English. Ideally for importing into flash cards, it would have all the text for the languages either interleaved per sentence (i.e French one line, English the next line, and so forth), or totally separate (all French lines, then all English). In both cases, no breaks within sentences. Maybe post this in a Google doc next to the PDF? A TSV format would work fine too. My flash cards can accomodate any text format that is consistent. Thanks.

It's not fair to not specify that you're using AIs - I mean, it's kinda obvious from the images, but some people are not used to AIs. One big problem with that is that the sentences are often unnatural. "Je presse toujours le bouton de répétition" (???), "Finalement", "toast", "à cause du grand trafic".... These appear because the AI is made on English first, and only translates to French instead of working immediately through French.
