Lepreau Falls is located in New Brunswick, Canada, near the village of Lepreau, which is approximately 25 kilometers west of Saint John. The falls are situated on the Lepreau River as it flows into the Bay of Fundy. Here's a brief overview of its history:
Indigenous History: Prior to European settlement, the area around Lepreau Falls would have been inhabited by Indigenous peoples, likely the Mi'kmaq and Maliseet tribes. These peoples would have used the rivers and surrounding lands for fishing, hunting, and gathering.
European Settlement: European settlement in the area began in the 18th century when Acadian and Loyalist settlers arrived in New Brunswick. The Lepreau River would have been an important resource for these settlers, providing water for mills and supporting various industries.
Industrialization: Like many rivers in New Brunswick during the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Lepreau River was utilized for its water power. Mills were established along its banks for sawmilling, gristmilling, and other industries. This industrial activity likely played a significant role in shaping the surrounding communities.
Hydroelectric Development: In the mid-20th century, there was a significant development related to hydroelectric power in the area. The Lepreau Generating Station, a nuclear power plant, was constructed nearby and began operation in 1983. While not directly related to Lepreau Falls, this development would have had an impact on the surrounding region, including the village of Lepreau.
Tourism and Recreation: Over time, as industrial activity in the area declined, natural features like Lepreau Falls became more important for tourism and recreation. Visitors are drawn to the scenic beauty of the falls, particularly during the warmer months when activities like hiking, picnicking, and photography are popular.
Conservation Efforts: Efforts to conserve and protect natural areas like Lepreau Falls have likely increased in recent years as awareness of environmental conservation has grown. Local and provincial authorities may have implemented measures to preserve the ecological integrity of the falls and surrounding areas.
Overall, Lepreau Falls has a history that reflects the broader trends of settlement, industrialization, and the evolving relationship between humans and the natural environment in New Brunswick, Canada.

That is a marvelous destination!! It has been years since I've been anywhere near there...maybe around 50 years or more!! I can only imagine that it would be flowing very enthusiastically during the spring melt. Awesome!!

You're back! It was nice to watch your video just now, it made my day. I really liked the history elements you included in your description. The footage was excellent and the falls are spectacular. And you're flying again too, great aerial footage! Glad to have you back, Robert. Cheers. - Daryl

Great video, Robert! The still shot you start with sets the bar pretty high, but then you deliver! The first time I watched the sequence beginning at 0:14, I thought you were hand-holding your drone for the walk-forward part all the way beyond the guardrail, and then might release it for a hand-held launch, continuing the clip with the drone flying forward. That could be an epic way of transitioning from handheld to aerial, and I'm absolutely stealing the idea whenever I find a good place for it (Seattle doesn't have grand waterfalls in its backyard). Way to go!
