Very helpful. However, when I select "of_" , then Alt F9, I get the Cortana pop up window. I am working with MS Word16 via Office365. My Y pages include the entire document and not numbering by section. The "x" page works great. Any ideas?

I'm sorry but I can't think of any way to do that. I think you are going to have to wait until the document is done then add up the number of pages in the 2 sections and just type the number in. If I think of a way I'll come back and tell you.

I knew how to do this on Word 2014 but apparently Word insists on being unduly burdensome in Word 2019. I thought products were supposed to get better over time!

Good question, so I made a tutorial on this that you can see here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppepdWagi9aZrKM You will need a next page section break between page 2 and 3. Turn same as previous off in the second section and set page number formatting to start numbering at 1. Put page numbering in section two but not section 1.

@@edge8236 If you just want "page x or y" on each page you should be able to do this: Put your cursor where you want the page numbering to appear. From the Header/Footer ribbon, Choose Page Numbers, Current Position. THEN scroll down the list of sample numbers until you see "Page 1 of 1." Click that and it will pop it in.
