A core memory for me in the Philippines. Thank you for creating the new year song Written in the Sand, Sir Danny Tan. Asia’s Songbird, Regine + awesome choir performance gave me the goosebumps and comfort I needed during the scare. New Year’s eve prayer recited well by Sir Mike Enriquez ❤ It was a momentous celebration. Back then it was scary, my grandma horrified me with End of the World & Y2K Bug scares in the news, as computers might read 1/1/1900 instead of 1/1/2000. I was 10 yrs old, worried about everything turning dark & collapse after the countdown. Good thing everything turned out alright ❤️ The best fireworks display from many countries that we’ve seen on television. Now I miss my grandma too, and the people gathering & celebrating without getting scared or hurt 🥲

I hate to say it but that's nostalgia talking there. As we go through time we forget the negativity and just remember the good bits. I've seen the same sentiment about 2012 too. In 2000 there was a lot of worry about the Millennium Bug, cost of building the Dome, etc. In 2012, there was the G4S scandal and other things. It wasn't always rosy and perfect. I don't want to bring you or anyone else down with it, I just wanted to share some perspective that nothing is totally good and optimistic or bad and pessimistic, it's always a balance. Which perhaps gives us all a bit of hope that no matter how bad we feel or how bad it gets, in balance there's always some good at play. And someday, the negativity you may have seen at the time you wrote this comment (looks like 2020?) will dissipate into pragmatism, and you'll just remember the good stuff, not how we were locked in our homes, but how we came together remotely as communities, etc and got through it.

Broadcast live from Studio TC1 at the BBC Television Centre in London. TC1 is one of three of the original eight television studios which remain at the Television Centre complex as of 2017. The 10,800 Sq Ft studio is one of the largest studios in the UK and Europe. This historic studio opened in 1964, and I am so glad that it is still in operation today.
