If everyone knew self denfence to fight against a stronger person, then there would have been no problem, but this is not possible right? Nowadays after these kind of cases in my country, even police and ministers support the culprits instead of the victim. Shame to say that these things happen in my country.

For next time...you can try to get gate passes for your parents to accompany you all the way till departure gate. You have to fill out CAA form and submit at airport in advance 2-3 days. You can do so for arrivals as well. But not sure due to virus restrictions these days they might have temporarily stopped issuing passes
