Getting 10 cherry shrimp this weekend fingers crossed it goes well, they are going into a well established planted 20 gallon long tank!

@Joe K slowly they all died tried again with same result, now breeding cory cats in the tank. Shrimp are really hard for me apparently.

temperature always a big problem for shrimp in tropical country... they will not reach at 70F... so need air conditioner for room of caridina shrimp tank... but i try to use a peltier cooler just for a 10gals tank... at least, its made my level up to learn about shrimp mineral, cattapa leaves, peat moss for shrimp tank, hydra and other predator of 'em.. so far they are fine... that is true for any tiny creature not exist in cooler tank.. thank you a lot sir... i also feeling guilty if the shrimp loss 1 by 1 in the morning but i will keep learning from you... also... my son whose name is Nathan say thanks to you...

Got a 10 gallon tank with 10 red cherry shrimp. Activated substrate. Added a lot of plants. No cycling. Added shrimp after 3 days. No deaths after 50 days. 3 Berried females. Can already see eyes in eggs. I'm using spring water that flows through a dam with plenty of fish in it. That water is cycled already. TDS is 50. My question is, the tank is 99% algae free. How do we know that there is enough biofilm for the shrimp to feed on? I can't see any film on the wood or plants.

@deltoid44 жыл бұрын
To simplify this even more guys, i put about 10 cherry shrimp a mix of males and females into a less than 6 gallon tank on my desk. Added Wood, plants and simple plants. I do check water parameters, but as long as they are near i'm happy. I use tap water by the way. TDS around 230 . PH around 7.2. I have a large aquarium with some algae issues on rocks and wood, so i will take a piece out of that tank and place in for my shrimp, they love it. Long story short, within weeks i had 4 buried females and a few weeks later again i now have babies everywhere O_O. They live with rams horn snails and a home bred young bristle nose plec. DIY sponge setup attached to a pat mini filter power head. Oh and a simple lamp from Ikea above. I agree with Nathan, You don't have to spend large amounts of money for success or worry about expensive foods. Anyone that keeps shrimp will know they go crazy for standard fish food as well. All i can advise is patience, let nature have a little time before you keep poking and prodding.

Nathan, I finally managed to get one of the small glass dishes to keep the shrimp food together. Is there an easy or simple way to get the food into the dish? I've been trying to add King Shrimp Color granules but I can't get them into the dish.
@tanda7124 жыл бұрын
You can use any sort of tube. I use a short piece of pvc and works just fine. They do make glass tubes you could buy and stick to side of tank but I just use pvc pipe and take it out after use.

You say you stopped really worrying about Kh/Gh in your tanks, but you didn't say what you did, just that you stopped really chasing them. So how did you overcome this issue if i may ask? i would like to hear more about this and possibly in relation to the TDS ( if possible) ... starting my first tanks with some Neocar's and i can't seem to find solid answers around this, so any help is appreciated, thank you.

Building the stand my 60g shrimp tank will sit on today. I have two related questions. 1st. I'm planning to put guppies in too, but they need a heated tank. If I set my tank heater to 70, will that be warm enough for the guppies, but cold enough for the shrimp? 2. My room gets down to 60 in the winter, and up to 86 in summer. I have an ac unit, but I dont want to run it all the time. Is there a way to keep the temp from fluctuating so much? I mean like some sort of insulation on the tank or something. I'm obviously using a heater in the winter and a fan or ac in the summer.

Fan on the top in summer and a heater to at least 65

Keeping shrimp are no harder than keeping fish really, except for using RO water and minerals. I actually do less work on my tank now I have turned it into a shrimp tank. I also have 7 ember tetras which leave the shrimp alone completely and my shrimp are breeding really well. I have babies everywhere and berried females also. Just have tonnes of plants and you are all good.

So, I bought some, drip acclimated them and they seemed to be doing fine. But I’ve had 2 die in the last 3 days and I can’t figure out why. hi, Ethan I need your help about one week ago, I did water change to lowering the TDS; then, I faced dead shrimps (2 or 3 per day) I searched for reason; and I noticed my RO unit has problem. the outlet water's TDS was about 100 I solved the problem and did about 15% water change and add liquid bacteria (Herbal and Bacter from Salty Shrimp) but, I'm facing dead shrimps yet and, all dead shrimps are between adults; not babies
