Wow! this was an amazing video. Unfortunately, I had to leave after several minutes yesterday, to have a shufti (quick look) at my garden, after a very heavy downpour. Alas I discovered the bandicoots had got in overnight and dug up half of my silverbeet plants. so I had to spend the evening building a higher barrier to keep them out. (they bring their own ladders!) So I was able to finish it this morning. Unbelievable how so much soil can just disappear! That was a fabulous job, you put so much thought into it. After watching your videos, I now understand why people stand around watching at worksites. It`s so interesting I loved seeing Diesel there the first day, keeping his eye on everything. He`s such a lovely boy. Lovely message today. Take care, some of these jobs are hair raising.

Hey Sam, I value these videos of you accomplishing these jobs by yourself. I was a project manager (meaning I had experience operating a desk-mounted computer and pencil) at a site development company for 21 years when the final principal decided it was time to retire and sell everything... I'm in my second year of rebuild from having zero equipment. Started out with a Cat 299 and mulcher, scored a nice clearing job and a decent sized storm drainage job last year to begin. Feel very fortunate to have lucked into a nice tandem dump truck with tag trailer a few months ago after about 9 months of looking, and a 308e2 should be arriving here from Ritchie Bros middle of next week - which I had been looking for for a year, so things are moving along even though equipment is selling for ridiculous prices. I feel your pain on finding help. But... It's bidding season around here now so keeping my fingers crossed and staying optimistic!! Good luck with the channel here - subscriber count should be snowballing soon!

What I’ve found over the years is best for help is to find another contractor that is also self-employed and insured that you can work with when needed. Someone that may also need help occasionally. You can feed each other work and pass 1099’s back and forth as needed and then you aren’t carrying the overhead of employees.

Looks good, you needed the d5 on that job, I believe it would have went much faster for you. when my dad built his 40x60 pole barn 20 yrs ago, he hired a guy to build the pad, and he done it in a 12hr day by himself with a cat d3 like I have, a 312 cat excavator, and tandem axle dump truck. Had to haul dirt about 100yrds where there was a pond he enlarged to get the dirt. I believe it was about 17 loads. It was not the most level pad I ever did see, it was within 2-3 inches... With all that said, I done the pad for my 40x50 shop with a rented deere 210 construction tractor. Cut down a hill in my front yard and bucketed it to the back, it took me probably 2 1/2 to 3 days, lots of buckets of dirt. Got my moneys worth out of the rental lol. Wish I would have had my dozer then! Very few pads in my area gets compacted, nobody has a compactor. They are usually just built several months ahead of time and get rained on multiple times before any construction begins. know a guy who had new poultry houses built, 100k worth of dirt work and they were not compacted. All done with a scraper tractor. The slopes washed like crazy, which probably wouldn't have if they were properly compacted.
@tristardiggin
@tristardiggin Жыл бұрын
Right, that was one of the bordline jobs of do I take the dozer or not. Would have been nice when I filled the hole back in with the material. Kind of the same way around here with packing pads. Most don't get packed. And like you said, they usually set for a while. I sure try to avoid taking the pad shell off and on. It is a pain!

No code about being level as far as I know of. They do have to be built so water doesn't run under neath. I think it's like 2% fall at least 6' from the edge of the mobile home. I always build them a lot better than that though. Glad you enjoyed the message...
