I agree with many others. I was never told this. I have one fob that works but another fob that is "dead" and will not work from a distance. I asked the dealer about a new one and he quoted me almost $500 for a new fob with programming. Then I found this video but was super skeptical about "touching" the Toyota symbol on the fob to the starter button to start and drive the car. However, I gave it a try and it works! Unbelievable. Now at least I know I have a back up in case my daughter loses the working key fob or something. Thanks a million.

The dealer is certainly never going to tell you this, that might impede future business. It's not in their best interest to tell you. I read the owner's manual, that's all I did. There's lots of other information in there as well. These keyfobs are nothing to mess with. $500 for a replacement is about the going rate. Keep them in good condition, don't get them wet. Most times nowadays, they never have to be removed from a pocket or purse, so there should never be a reason to lose them.

Great video. This great little trick was hidden way up on page 35 of my owners manual. I never knew about it. I had a similar problem when my key fob got too cold, causing the battery to not put out enough voltage (it was low to begin with). I opened up the key fob and warmed up the battery in my palm for a few minutes, and it then worked. But, I feel a lot better knowing that the start button is capable of inducing a current in the key fob so it can put out a signal even with a totally dead battery.

Thanks Rocky! This information actually is in the book, but being several hundred pages, it's easy to miss. When the battery gets marginally low, you'll start having problems. In a perfect world, the car will warn you when leaving the vehicle. I've had luck opening the fob and spinning the battery clockwise some, for some reason that would make it work for a little while. After a while I got tired of opening the door with the key and touching the fob to the button so I replaced the battery and all is well.

@@candygreen1831 No, it wasn't working before, now you replaced the battery, and it's still not working. The keyfob itself is the problem, it's not getting power from the battery, most likely, but the coil behind the button can excite the coil in the fob and get it to work. You might need to replace the keyfob.

Thanks for video man! One question, Even though I replaced battery, remote still doesn't work. The light indicator does not light up on top of the keyfob, as well as I was told there is no frequency coning out of it. How long is it ok to use emergency start? is it going to make me unavailable to start car at all at some point?

No, it'll keep working. Perhaps the batteries you got were no good? These keyfobs seem to be particular about having the right, and high enough voltage to work. I ended up with some junky batteries that only last a short while before needing to be replaced. Perhaps yours are worse.

Check the expiration date on the batteries yes I didn't know that and went through some troubles until It dawned on me.... Maybe they have an expiry date and sure enough they do

No problem. I have found that the battery in this fob has to be brand-new fully charged up, not one that has been sitting around for some time on a shelf. It might be worth your while to try another battery in the fob before succumbing to dealer prices.

Please Gary Mattews, I just had similar issues with my car. I changed the battery in the key fob and yet my doors nor ignition powered up. I jst kept punching d button nd the car came up. When you got to the dealership what did they say was wrong with the key fob or the car. I am in Nigeria and i dont have the privilege to visit any dealership.

I'll answer your second question first: Call a locksmith. They'll often do it for less than the dealership. Just make sure they do vehicle keyfobs, and give them the make, model, and year and they should be able to tell you. As for never reading the manual, that's all I did--read the manual. In there, you will find a plethora more information and probably learn a few things about your car you didn't even know about. I've met too many people who think they need to start the car to roll the windows down, and I guarantee they never read the manual because it would have said the engine would need to be running to do so. Same with the radio, probably because their Uncle Bob once drained his battery listening to the radio too long.

@@jaykay18 thank you! We all have an uncle like that haha I’m actually a fan of the manual but I’ve told everyone I know about the Toyota symbol to the start button and nobody knew. After FOB, I have to work on the touch display because no music can be played. There’s no fix for that in the manual though I think I just have to take it to someone who does car stereos. It’s an older Camry 2012. But it’s in great shape with only 100,000 miles on it so if I have to replace the soundsystem I’m ok with that. I will def take your advice on the locksmith I found a good one right near me. Thanks again!!!!

@@jjb6 You're very welcome! You might be able to check the dumb stuff like the fuse for the sound system, it's possible it blew. Usually a fuse has a good reason to blow but sometimes they just break. I had that happen with the turn signals on this 2007 model. Fuse just went, no rhyme or reason. Replaced and it's been perfect. If the stereo is bad, you might be able to get one from a junkyard but I don't know if that has to be programmed to work with the car. Otherwise, they sell replacement "Carplay" units, some Android ones as well that will give you a lot more functionality than the stock one. They make all sorts of adapters and trim pieces so it will look like it belongs there. Best of luck, here's to at least another 100,000!

Quizás la transmisión inalámbrica del llavero no esté funcionando. O el coche no está recibiendo la señal. El auto vino con 2 llaveros. Prueba con el otro. Si funciona, el problema es solo el llavero.
