I am a 73 year old Canadian male who spent most of my life in music. I've never hit "the big time" but have supported myself well and am happy with my life so far. lol My comment to you Mr. Tyson is, Thank You! I never had the advantage of education (left school in grade ten due to no family support) but I've always had a deep interest in WHY? Since following yourself and your scientific colleagues for many years online now, I feel I've learned so many things, from Quantum Mechanics to the histories of the greatest scientists. I hope that in the future, other "disadvantaged" folks like me, continue to learn from people like you. I feel I have become part of a scientific community, if not for my education, at least for my curiosity. And being curious is what keeps me active in life, music and happiness. Have a great day sir and again, Thank You!!

The world, as we know it, will end from famine (and food wars). Crop failure... economic failure (with automation/AI a factor)... overpopulation. Take your pick. Unlike every other solution to climate change, famine is guaranteed to work. Drastic population reduction via denial of access to food; cuts the greenhouse emissions of those affected by 100%. If we were switching the entire planet to nuclear power, I might believe we were implementing a kind solution to climate change. Apparently, it's too late for that... needed to be done 20 years ago. Only the devil's arithmetic can save humanity from impending doom. Political consent on such policy is given implicitly; lack of sufficient action in all other solutions, leaves only two doors: reduction... or extinction.
@sfisabbt5 жыл бұрын
I don't believe climate change, energy crisis, mass extinction, crop failure, economic failure can make human life disappear. These can drastically lower the wold population, including in western developed countries and make the survivors change completely their way of life. We can eat far less, some places in the world will remain fertile, some people will remain. These can't extinct humanity directly. ... but we can. We have all the weapons we need for that. What will happen when the most populated areas of the world become uninhabitable while every country is progressively choosing defiance and nationalism? For the moment, with obviously no intention anywhere to face the problem at its scale, it seems like a gamble : either a downfall toward some dystopian post-apocaliptic life or to oblivion.

It was suggested that the impact initiated the breakup of pangaea and the volcanic activity and the results of the impact together would have resulted in 95% of species extinction. Is that possible and has anyone heard similar theories.
