Jim, just to clarify, the larger 12ga purple wire is the "Start" wire to power the solenoid coil during cranking ("S" terminal)... it is not a ground wire. The ground for the solenoid coil is internal and is provided by the starter housing. The smaller 18ga yellow wire is only used on 73-75 coaches with points ignition. It provides a bypass to the current limiting resistor wire to give a full 12V to the ignition coil during cranking from the "R" terminal. There is no yellow wire on HEI equipped coaches. Check the chassis wiring diagrams to confirm.
