If this happens to you a lot and you want something more reliable, try a starter clutch from a Suzuki r6. Step1: acquire r6 starter clutch. Step2: Disassemble your cb 900 starter clutch. Step3: Take the large gear wheel from your cb 900 and the 3 holed flange that fits onto your crankshaft. From the r6 you only need the bearing. (The part with the 6 holes and the ring inside it with the "rollers") Step 4: Take the bearing from the r6 and slide it over the large gearwheel from the cb900. To make it go smoother try turning the bearing counterclockwise while lightly pressing. * Step5: Drill 6 holes in the flange from the cb900 to be able to bolt on the r6 bearing holder. The hole centers are 37 mm (remeasure this to be sure) from flange center and spread 60° apart. The holes should be made 8 mm for the M8 bolt to go through. Or you can only drill 3 holes, 120° apart. It is not advised to file out the current holes, this will make for a bad fix. Step6: Bolt the flange to bearing with bolts from the cb900. These are the right length and size (17 mm thread length and M8 size) . Do not go longer. Apply some threadlock if you want to, this will only work on a clean (oil free) thread surface. Step7: Reassemble the unit on your motorcycle. This solution was made by members of the cb 1100 forum. I don't have it straight from them so i don't know their names. Thanks to those guys. *Sometimes one of the rollers fell out and is put back in upside down. Then it will not slide as easily or won't even fit.

OK But clean the three bolt hole threads with something like carb cleaner spray (then dry with paper or cloth) before using threadlocker/Loctite

Hi Jonathan, Do you have any info on removing the starter clutch from the bike? I have an 81' cb750 and need to rebuild the starter clutch. I can't find any info on removing it in the Clymer manual though.

@traller1- I was thinking the exact same thing as soon as he mentioned that at the begining of the video... Loctite doesn't work if the threads are full of oil.

+Andreas N kinda sounds like it. Sounds like the starter clutch is slipping every so often. is the knocking coming from the left side of the engine?
