Hi guys,sorry for a long time without a video,we are back in the game
now.
I came up with the idea to create some kind of "quick tip" section of my videos,where i post short guides how to do simple jobs on starters and alternators.
Please let me know what you think about this.
I havent placed any info about what type of iron you should use or what type of solder you should use because there is a loads of these information on the internet allready.

it will soldier it self out back when you crank it up to 180 degree celsius(soldier point). it is just a simple way to fix it if your engine does not require a serious crankint to start it,you just crank it for a 15-20 secs, and you need to take out your starter and re soder it.guys in my country who are rebuilding starters and alternators are using welding method called point soldering or argon soldering, there are also several ways to connect brushes new wire to old wire home made ways like to cap it wit an copper plate and soldier it with an axid soldieing, it is quite effective if you do not use argon or point welding method.

This is comforting... thanks for your input Jonas. I'm an experienced mechanic and most of the times i painstakingly use the factory clippings and rebuilding it which occasionally you ran the risk of deforming the brackets and alignment because i'm so pessimistic about soldering alone. I live in a hot climate with always hot engine and melting solder "direct" connection always worries me. Now i'm getting tired of my methods because it's time consuming.

yes , you are right, this type of soldering on the video is a temporary solution.

Приветствую. Я свариваю щётки тигом с присадкой HARRIS USA, тоесть медь с медью, результат как с завода. Метод припаивания паяльником не рекомендую.

I fix all my own alternators and starters but the tip about holding the braided copper wire with the pliers when tinning it is a new one to me which I'm going to use the next time I'm replacing brushes, thanks for the video.

Привет друг, я не рекомендую такой метод установки щёток, при работе стартера щётки с подводящим проводом сильно греются и есть вероятность что щётка отпаяется, ремонтировал уже после такого ремонта, советую купить тиг горелку и медный прут(присадку) фирмы HARRIS USA, подключив эту горелку к сварочному обычному аппарату и током примерно 60 Ампер, приваривать щётки, сваривая медь с медью, результат идеальный, сразу может не получиться, рекомендую потренироваться с старым стартером.

I did mine with a hot air station and it worked :) not a paint stripping gun a pukka heat station that I have for soldering.I guess a plumbers blow torch would work but needs care if you havent got a soldering iron with a super large tip like the one in the video.

Great video. My soldering skills are rubbish and from the small amount of effort I put in I couldn't find the right size brushes. It's for a boat starter and I don't want to get stuck out at sea with the kids so I'm going to buy a new starter. I have some skills and knowledge. Soldering is not one of those skills haha.

Once again a great video... However, I would have used a pair of wire snips/cutters that have a fine beveled end. Then place them where the plate is bent over and clamping the braided copper lead. Then as you squeeze as to cut a wire, it will open/spread that clamp. After a little effort, the existing copper lead will come out. Prep the new brush leads as he showed with solder, place in the clap, close the clamp to compress the lead and then solder the entire connection. No matter what country you are in, how hot it may get or just how long you crank the motor........ The joint will never come apart!!!!!

100watt, But 80 will also do. All thou i recommend 120 for bigger jobs.

Ah so this cant be done with normal soldering iron then. The issue is I have a coupe fan heater with worn-out brushes. New plan, slaughter alternator with long enough wires that I can solder on.
