Replacing a starter on a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe with a 3.5 Liter engine. The exhaust is in the way, so it needs to be moved. Fairly simple...no special tools needed.

All you gotta do is take the o2 sensor out of the way and it slips right out. Saves you a lot of time. Just got this done in 1 hour
@coathanger512 ай бұрын
I can see that you are right, just remove the O2 sensor and not deal with the kazoom pipe... I was wondering about that... still, he did a good job either way... just saying...

this video will be infinitely useful for as long as these cars are on the road. 7 yrs later and you’ve helped me . I’m very appreciative

The main thing about this is that I'm impressed how the automotive industry has taken what was once simple and turned it into a freaking abortion. No wonder that it now costs a arm and a leg to have any work done at a shop.

Yeah, nowadays they cram everything into a small engine compartment, after they've turned the engine sideways (front-wheel-drive). Plus, they make things so that the average DIY mechanic won't want to do a repair, even if they have the tools to do so. Thanks for watching, Mark!

This is nice and clear. I like that there’s instructions instead. This video is 100+

I only had to pull the o2 sensor and wiggle the heat shield out. The starter came out between the exhaust manifold and oil pan just fine with no issues. The removal of exhaust bolts will more then likely break causing way more problems !

Audio would have been great so that I could listen as I worked instead of having to try to stop and read. useful anyway. Thanks.

Can I get to the electrical components without doing all that, a rat chewed my wiring?

Is it all the same for all of the motor sizes? I know the 2.7 and 3.5 are same starter but what about 2.4? Is it the exact same wag taking it off and putting back on do you know?

Would it be bad if you forget to clip the O2 sensor back to the bracket?

Thanks for the video. Helped me cut to the chase. I am not a mechanic but I've easily changed out starters on 350 Chevys before but newer cars drive me nuts.

There was some small distinctions in my 04 Santa Fe, but the overall steps were awesome to follow. Took me about 3 1/2 hrs to replace the starter.

What size is the thing used to remove the B+ bolt? I am trying to fix this myself and am the least technically inclined person i know. So im having a bit of a hard time. 😅

it's most likely a 10mm or 12mm socket. He is using a wrench here most likely due to the small work area.

according to this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5uvmYadnrOYhdE it's a 12mm nut

What a pain in the ass ! Try replacing all six spark plugs !
@GreaseMonkeyFever7 жыл бұрын
Yes it is...and yes, I've replaced the spark plugs. The front aren't bad...the back requires the plenum to be removed. Got a vid on that as well. Thanks for watching!

Great video. Very helpful. Thanks! I was able to swap a starter on a 2003 3.5l Sante Fe without removing the exhaust at all, as the O2 sensor is in a different location.

that rear manifold exhaust pipe is such a pain in the ass to remove. Very little space to work, and any bit of rust and you can't get your socket around the bolt. Fun times.

Thanks for a great video that made changing the starter on my 2004 Santa Fe simple. The Haynes manual states that some models may require exhaust system removal, but does not specify exactly how to accomplish this. This video proves that seeing is believing. Well done!

The only thing you didn't have to do was actually loosen the exhaust there's plenty of room to get the starter out without taking off the exhaust well thank you your video helped a lot
@higler. Жыл бұрын
Without removing the o2 sensor or the exhaust you cannot get the cover out because that damn o2 sensor wire is in the way.
@paulgreen20824 жыл бұрын
What are the wires connected to the exhaust? The ones right in the middle throughout the video. I found they are broken in my car.
