We bought this care used approx. 4 months ago, very noisy starter (grinding noises), and lately a slower than normal start RPM. Time to change it out- Rock auto WAI starter $115cdn. Standard transmission. I The new starter had a bigger solenoid and a longer motor case, still it went it after some wiggling. I secured the starter wiring harness with a zip tie. It now starts quickly and without any grinding noises. Feeling pretty good!!! Much cheaper than the dealer whom wanted over $1600!

Yeah, I had 2 Accent and over the course of their ownership, I had 5 different starter motors in them (3 changes). I wouldn't say this car is unreliable, but Its very inexpensive, and I have a feeling this video might be helpful to a few people...

Thanks for the video as i had to do it on my parents 2010 accent automatic transmission, just to save everyones time its doable from the top no need to do anything from underneath! and its a one man job did it this morning in an hour, akk you need is to remove 3 bolts for ECU and air cleaner assembly and 2 clamps for intake boot to pull it aside, i had battery removed too since it i was putting new one as well, after you remove thin wire connector from starter solenoid and use 12mm small socket to undo the main power cable there is two 14mm bolts that holds the starter once you undo both there is enough space to wiggle removed starter in between firewall and the engine installation is reversal but took me couple of tries to wiggle it back in place but easy enough and with one hand holding the starter i put both bolts in with another hand, just in case if you be lucky like me after install everything works except the blower, power windows and radio and you got the red battery light on speedo its the 125A fuse in the fuse box under the hood just besides the battery 125a fuse is in a shape of a metal plate with clear plastic in the middle very tricky to see that its toasted only at a certain angle i saw that it is toasted inside and after replacement everything worked but not the radio fuse #31 15A under the dash was blown as well :)

Put some electrical greese on terminals to protect from salty roads.....
@gereral1_jackofalltrades3 жыл бұрын
And 1 more tip. In top of engine greese the ground metal strap is this can have corrosion and make it hard to start if there is not a good ground. There is ground near battery tray too..... Be safe

Great video! How did you fish the starters in and out? From underneath or on top or through the wheel well? I have a 2009 Hyundai Accent and the old starter is really closed in on all sides. I don't see an open space where it'll fit through. Thanks, Steve

Not a easy starter to change did it from the top now car will turn over but it won't start are there any ground wires on the back of the engine this is driving me nuts.😢

There are 2. One on engine top mount bracket to engine on left side near washer tank near upper shock cap.. The other is located under battery tray copper ground wire to frame. These are the grounds.

Hi,I Have A Hyundai Accent 2011 The Alternator Belt Broke And I Replaced It.Now When You Take The Car For A Drive You Will Get As Far As 7-8 Km Then The Car Will Shut Off.You Then Have To Wait About 45 Minutes Or So Before It Will Restart.You Always Have To Wait Around 45 Minutes Before It Restarts.Any Tips To Help Me out Will Be Greatly Appreciated.

Richard McCarthy does coolant temp light come on? Did the alternator output put out 13.9-14.1v once installed? If the belt is true and alternator is keeping battery charged check the engine grd and grd under battery. If those check out have crank sensor checked. You can also goto yhe icon under my youtube banner and hoto hyundai forums and post in 2006-2011 accent forums. have make model and trans type in your post. There are 2 certified techs who will help you out. my name is ikilledbarbie on those forums.

Stupid question- Can this be done more easily from underneath? Without removing all those other components? (except for the battery cable of course!)
@plopplop.3 жыл бұрын
You can't reach all the bolts from underneath.

Hey do you have a video for replacing the ECM on a 2009 Hyundai Accent?
@gereral1_jackofalltrades7 жыл бұрын
Nateen Rushkomivinov replacing is simple just like shown in this video. But you need dealership to program the tach and key immobiliser to start the car. The scan tool cost 5 grand so the dealership is the only way.

I have exactly the same vehicle. My vehicles starter sometimes cranks slow and other times normal. Could it just be the starter solenoid? Or does the starter need a service.
@gereral1_jackofalltrades6 жыл бұрын
Slow crank = not enough amps so look at testing the battery and voltage drop to the starter before putting out money on a new starter.
@christophergreen69806 жыл бұрын
gereral1 the battery was replaced in the winter so I know it's not the battery, plus it's not a cheap battery either I opted for a very good brand new Willard battery and they are excellent they last a long time and come with a 25 month warranty
@Grichecth5 жыл бұрын
@@christophergreen6980 I know this is super long ago, but check your ground strap to the left of the engine connecting the block to the frame. If that is rusted or corroded that could be your issue. if that strap has completely rusted away then your starter is trying to ground through a smaller wire and will melt that wire and possibly damage other wires in the wire harness. Ask me how I found this out, lol. You can get a new ground strap super cheap at a parts store. I got a long braided one for $10.

Was a video I did not want to do.... just being honest. Turned key click click click nothing. Fix it in record time..... the new starter wines at start but does not grind. There were no shinnies or spacers that came out when I removed the oem one. So I installed this one without any. I know older starters used a spacer to line them up if they are off. The wine sound I asked about and the mechanic told me it happens from a new starter as the brushes are new and it will go away after a couple weeks.Hope it does but the car starts fine and very responsive at key to start. Today payed 400 bucks and had a remote starter put in. He tested it and said the starter sounded fine so I'm not going to worry about it. This was my first starter install. The remote starter is cool. Press 2 times then car turns everything on waits a sec then starts. After I get in put the key to on position and then off I go. If I press the brake pedal before the key goes into the ignition the car shuts off to protect from being stolen. Had them program the chip key into the module .

@gereral1_jackofalltrades3 жыл бұрын
These cars you order the starter as unit and get a core fee for old starter. This is how shops do it for these parts.
