It's amazing you didn't use tape to mask the lighter grey areas, great brush control and steady hand.

Cheers! Yeah I wished I had the masking tape for that, 3 hours of pain haha 😅

Enjoyed this. Nice work with what you were allowed to use. Your work on the canopy was superb; a steady hand indeed. Just goes to show how much a few little extras enhance a build. Thanx for sharing. 👍

Nice work. The problems you explained, and were apparent, just show that "3d party" items are a must. Primer, putty and sandpaper being of necessity. Not to mention gloss varnishes.
@ModellingWeekly Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I totally agree. These kits a nice step up into the hobby for newcomers, but third party extras are really the only way to improve!

Hi, what primer would you recommend for this if you were using it? I’m new to this and have no clue
@ModellingWeekly10 ай бұрын
Hey! The best primer by far is Mr surfacer 1500, in any colour, however this requires an airbrush, so I'd instead recommend the rattle can version of Mr surfacer. It's the next best thing after airbrushing. Just make sure you spray it either outside or in a very well ventilated area, as it's a lacquer so it can be pretty harmful if misused
@vicparratt7523 Жыл бұрын
With regard to paint adhesion, did you wash the parts first to get rid of any mold release agent. Best wishes Vic.
@ModellingWeekly Жыл бұрын
I did indeed! These humbrol starter set paints are just a bit reluctant to stick without a primer layer

can we do this as sort of a beginner kit for well... beginners instead of it being a challenge or a low budget challenge cuz bezos charges for shipping even with prime >:(? on another note love trick you showed at 18:53 (may not be that big of a secret I did like one model and it failed :P) anyways its awesome keep it up!

@@TheFighterrr-1 glad you like it! What do you mean exactly? I made this video sort of as if I was a beginner, do you mean using more advanced techniques on a starter kit instead?

@@ModellingWeekly using advanced techniques on a budget of around 50 dollars? That would be smth Id watch! And when you made this as if you were a beginner I couldn’t notice 😅 (even the most beginner techniques intimidate)

That light gray pattern painting looks awful to do. But I'm sure masking it for airbrushing would feel no less tedious. Great result considering the materials.
@ModellingWeekly Жыл бұрын
It was incredibly tedious! Was much easier with spray masks on my other f-35, however even then it took a while indeed. Thank you man :)

Lol, I slide instrument panel decals onto unvarnished cockpits all the time. I do have Mr.mark setter and Mr.mark softer to help though....
@ModellingWeekly Жыл бұрын
Don't blame you lol it saves some time. It's less about the silvering that worries me and more the fact that the water can make an acrylic surface bubble up a bit if it stays wet for too long 😅

Building kits with as less materials and tools as possible is more like expert work. Beginners will find it much easier if they have all the tools and materials they need at their disposal. So i really don't get the point of these "starter" kits. Brush painting on an unprimed surface? No way. You need experience to get a half decent result.
@ModellingWeekly9 ай бұрын
These kits are designed for kids and people who want to try out the hobby maybe on a Saturday afternoon without having to invest too much into it - what I mean to say is that it's just designed with fun in mind! They also teach people the importance of auxillary supplies if they do want to get into the hobby more seriously, as they act as a demonstrator for the results you'll get without buying other supplies :)
