For day 6 I have noticed that I can breathe better (more deeply) , my sense of taste is completely back, I can smell better and the best of all is that the anxiety I was suffering with nightly has disappeared. When I relapsed in March 2019 it made me feel super embarrassed and depressed because I am a parent, I hated smoking and it really affected how well I took care of myself, I was in the mindset of "why should I bother showering when I'm only going to smell of smoke minutes later" which in turn affected my depression because I wasn't taking care of myself. Quitting has really helped all round, I'm now taking care of myself, my depression is minimal, anxiety pretty much gone. Thanks Joel, will keep watching!

Congratulations on five weeks Pradeep. Here is a page that talks about the kind of thoughts that may creep in from time to time: whyquit.com/joels-videos/craves-and-thoughts-that-occur-over-time/ The next two pages will help you to be prepared for these thoughts and to minimize their impact if they occur: whyquit.com/joels-videos/videos-related-to-the-implications-of-a-puff-once-you-have-quit/ whyquit.com/joels-videos/relapse-prevention-resources/ One more thing Pradeep, if you are wanting to respond to me in the future it is best not to reply to this specific chain of replies now for I might not find them for quite a while. My page whyquit.com/joels-videos/comment-notification-problem/ explains the issues involved here. Once again, congratulations on five weeks. Joel

I threw a 4 year quit away for 6 months by taking a puff. I'm really looking forward to getting back to the state I was in 7 months ago.....didn't think about cigarettes at all except when I was hoping my kids would never think cigarettes were cool like I did, and start a 22 year cycle of addiction, like I did. Cant wait for Day 16, when my mind stops telling me I need nicotine! Thanks so much for all of the resources Joel!

Almost done with day 6 and I feel horrible. Extreme fatigue. Eating a lot of crap just to keep my hands and mouth busy. Nuts, chocolate covered raisins, doritos, ice cream. Yes my breathing is better but that's the only positive so far. I'm depressed and trying to keep it together but the thought of going to the store and buying a pack is always on my mind. I'm rationalizing that I'm 60 years old, I only smoked half a pack a day, why not let myself enjoy what's left of my life instead of suffering like this. Days 1-3 were much easier than 4-6. I'm retired and all I've been doing is laying in bed with the tv on and napping on and off, and stuffing my face with snacks, craving to smoke. Getting massively angry at little things. This needs to get better soon because I don't know how much longer I can go on like this.

Thank you so much for your videos! I am on day 6 of no smoking. The 1st time I quit was in 2011 and then after 8 months I fell right back into it. This time around I quit cold turkey and did it for me, not anyone else. So far I am not going through the intense mood swings like I did the first time. I waited so long to try again because of the hell I went through that I didn't want to do it again. By God's grace I am not struggling as bad. I definitely have my bad moments but I have strong support including the website of whyquit.com and these videos. I never knew so much support existed for quitting smoking.

lol. my smell is coming in better and I had took a shower but had some perfume from the past. that I always thought smelt good. omgosh I just put on a dab and I stunk. haha. really not sure about breathing yet but do know when in past I smoked to much... my lungs ( chest) was heavy or hurt. so great sign. it does now and walking my dog better. which I've started deep breathing techniques that helps and also my pulmonary doc told and showed me how. I'm doing everything since I've got this far. I will never take even one puff I pledge. I got copd and have lost loved ones. one was my dad tht I moved in and took care of. which was a gift from god!! Than almost 3 years ago but n July 4th I lost my husband to lung cancer so suddenly!! he had been quit for two years and they said it was a rare one. but he was diagnosed on June 16th and I lost him on July 4th. they has misdiagnosed him having pnewmonia. Than 8 months aga I got a scare. They found few nodules in my lungs. of coarse I was so frightened and done a lot of praying. well finally the 6 month mark came where I cud do my CT. angaun but so proud to say. NO CANCER!!! I'm so grateful. I did get a tad bad news but it will clear up. I had to remodel bathroom. and it had mold in it. The doc did say these were diff nodules and would clear out. Thank god on that too. so I understand this addiction so well but understand this addiction we can loose our loved ones so I beg anybody and everybody to lay them down. before it does you. There not your FRIEND IS WAT I USE TO TELL MY HUSBAND N HOW STUPID I WAS God really blessed me and I'm grateful. but if u got copd or heart disorders. lay them down but even if your HEALTHY. plz lay then down. sorry for long comment but thank you so much for listening. god bless each. and I pledge not to smoke with you. we can do this. Angel hugs

So, I'm on my day 6 today. I went to a party on the third day of not smoking. I was affraid of it, but got through it without smoking - and it was not hard at all to not smoke, it was fun. The first three days were hard, because i felt as a looser, as a traitor to my friend or something. But that's over now. I still drink coffe and do all the things I did before, just not smoking and eventhough I still feel that I miss something, I am surprised at how I can smell stuff. It already imrpooved. Being bored is also a thing - I spent around 100 minutes a day idle from other activities for the sake of smokes.

Day six. 2 minutes 39 seconds... average time for craving today.
@joelspitz
@joelspitz 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Allan: Congratulations on your six day quit. As far as for amount of time you find yourself craving, there is one thing you can do to minimize how often they now occur and how long they may last when they do. Its basically doing the opposite of what many people will tell you to do which is to try not to think about it. See the page whyquit.com/joels-videos/just-think-of-something-else/. The craves that happen now are more likely from triggers than for any real physical need for nicotine. The page whyquit.com/joels-videos/difference-between-physical-and-psychological-urges/ explains why these two thought, while similar in nature can be dealt with in very different ways. Also related would be the pages whyquit.com/joels-videos/i-want-one/, whyquit.com/joels-videos/fixating-on-a-cigarette/ and whyquit.com/joels-videos/who-wants-to-go-back-to-smoking/. I quit smoking January 1st 2007. Officially relapsed April 2017. I had allowed myself to smoke a cigarette here and there over the years, after I felt like I was finally in control. That was a terrible idea. By the time I quit 6 days ago I was back up to a pack daily. Not only was I up to a pack daily, but I was smoking Newport 100’s. When i quit in2007 I was smoking Marlboro lights. This video is very uplifting. I’m just laying around appreciating the recovery process. I definitely feel more calm and also more energy. Cheers

Congratulations on day six. The page whyquit.com/joels-videos/weight-related-videos/ addresses weight concerns issue. I want to point out that the first week or so you can actually gain weight without eating any more than normal--but that weight is usually from a water retention effect that can occur when first quitting smoking. That weight will normally come off in the second week. As the resource page points out though--many people gain from eating more and not taking up any activities to offset the extra calories. The main weight control video though clarifies how much activity a person needs to do to burn off the calories from additional food intake. The sooner this is addresses the easier it will be to avoid any long term weight gain issues.

Here is a page with a number of resources that touch on different issues that can be at play here: whyquit.com/joels-videos/feeling-like-you-are-getting-sick-after-quitting-smoking/ Also, in the event that you are on any medications for other conditions unrelated to smoking or quitting, see the page whyquit.com/joels-videos/medication-adjustments-that-may-be-necessary-after-quitting-smoking/ At this point in time though, if you are having symptoms that can be indicative of some kind of infection it is best not to automatically write them off to having recently quit smoking. The pages whyquit.com/joels-videos/life-goes-on-without-smoking/ and whyquit.com/joels-videos/when-you-may-really-need-to-talk-to-your-doctor-about-quitting-smoking/ addresses this concern. Joel
