I love the rare authenticity in each of your videos. Whenever I feel alone in the struggles of my mid-twenties, it can often feel so isolating. Thanks for sharing and making me and others feel seen, understood, and ultimately hopeful that we will get there and we’re not alone in this journey.

I love this story. I think the premise of a high paying job is that it will make you happy but if it doesn't it's no longer satisfying the initial goal.

I can relate- I'm in a similar boat. I'm almost 29 and currently between careers. I don't think we should be afraid to make a change if we feel we're on the wrong path. I want to be able to look back on my life one day and be happy with the choices I made, not feel like I settled.

Sad story that rent or mortgage won't pay itself and you need to save up for kind of gaps in life when you don't want to or can't work.

Thanks for your courage to honestly speak about these thoughts! I would assume more share them than we think but only a few have the courage to admit them.

You are lucky that financially you can take a gap year or make a career change. Most people cannot afford quitting a job.

Good video. Everyone should take a gap year if the had the opportunity. Don't let society push you into a corner.

I'm 28 and I'm working as an engineer as well. I'm thinking about leaving my corporate job to take a gap year travelling around SE Asia. I feel super identified with your thoughts after watching this video...❤️❤️

Iris, maybe I missed something but in the last video I believe that you were working as a content creator for a nature preserve in Panama. Are you still doing that or maybe that is only part time work? Not to stress anyone out but as a retired IT professional who put 38 years in the IT world (plus several years doing other things before IT i.e. Park Ranger) I just want to say that the years do tend to go by more quickly as you age. This is especially true when you are out in the working world but probably for everyone. I remember my grandmother telling me when I was little that the years go by faster and faster and boy, was she correct. I hope that you can find something that you can do that brings both financial as well as personal benefits for you. Best of luck in your career search. Beautiful location to film by the way, until the mosquitoes showed up that is.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom 😊 That is very interesting! You once worked as a park ranger? That sounds amazing, where was this? 😊 Yes, that is true, I just got back from Panama. I was working with the organisation in the rainforest for a month, it was only a temporary gig but I loved it a lot and who knows maybe I’ll go back there again soon 😊 I went there in May but it took me a while to finish and put out the videos about it, so there is a bit of a delay :)

@@iris-tabea I worked for the US National Park Service as an interpretive Park Ranger at historical parks. Both at Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania (site of the largest Civil War battle) and at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia PA (home to Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence as well as the US Constitution were both written). I also did a stint with the US Army Corps of Engineers as a Park Ranger in Sullivan, Missouri where a dam was supposed to have been built on the Merrimack River which flows into the Mississippi River at Saint Louis. We had 24,000 acres of park land to patrol. All interesting jobs.

I've also realized that time is going by so darn fast as I grow up (especially after the pandemic). Are there any ways that helped you deal with the scarcity/rapid acceleration of time while working and aging. I feel like I only remember my weekends ...and if that's the case then I am only truly living 2 days a week (plus holidays and vacation) for the last 10 years.
@NJcruiser3 ай бұрын
@@olinafan4459 Unfortunately for me no. I think it is a universal truth that time seems to speed up as you age. Probably because you get into routines like working a lot and limited free time. Also, you pick up more responsibilities as you age, marriage, children, homeownership, college savings, retirement savings etc. For me it seems like the 90s were just a few years ago instead of 25+ years ago.
