Awesome video! How'd you guys like the Farm to Summit meal? I'd been eyeballing their meals but hadn't made the jump to order theirs yet. It was great to see some behind the scenes of Garage Grown Gear and everything!

Cool! I didn't realize GGG is in MN! I buy gear from them all the time. WTH! I lived in MPLS for 40 years and the SHT is on my short list. Now, I only live 1.5 hours from Duluth. Was just thinking about my summer plan and perhaps this is an omen? Could be super buggy when I have best availability. I agree autumn is best for this hike.

Yeah! I think GGG is just on the border of the twin cities, and sounds like they plan to open a brick and mortar store there in the coming year which would be really cool!

Awesome!! I was lucky enough to hike the CT in August and learned so much from you to prepare! Thanks!! So much!!🙏 I still had some trail legs at the tail end of Sept and piggybacked off a business trip, spending a few days on the Superior Trail too (made it about 85 miles to Lutsen). The colors look identical, makes me think we were days apart. Seeing anything messages the logs from Barack?? 😬🤷‍♀️ I ‘m sure you loved all those grouse!!

Excited for the series, I'm sure you ran into a lot of rain this fall. I had the opportunity to do a NOBO thru-hike of the SHT in the spring of 2022 and, as mentioned, it was a great way to see experience for myself what the thru-hiking experience is like and how to handle things like resupply, etc. As a Minnesotan, getting to experience the same trail where I had gone on my first backpacking trip many years prior in a new and complete fashion was amazing. This April, I'll be taking things to the next level by attempting to thru-hike the PCT. While I know that trail will be quite different, I definitely have more confidence than I would having not done a trail like the SHT. Someday, I'm sure I'll be back to do another thru hike of the SHT in fall. If you're ever in Minnesota again and looking to mix things up, I'd really recommend that you consider doing a canoe route through the BWCA.

I have been wanting to do a thru hike for so long. Tried to convince my partner to let me go do Te Araroa, but I would be gone for too long. A few days ago she sent me a link to the SHT, and said she would want to hike it as well. So here is hoping we can do it next fall. Opened up KZbin this morning and this video was first in my feed. I kind of feel it is a sign. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

This does look really nice. If I didn't live so close to the Ouachita Trail, I'd pick it for my first through hike. Being able to have family come out for resupply is too good to pass up. Also, it's really pretty down here.

Ooo! This is very timely! I was just beginning to research The Bruce Trail in Canada for a thruhike starting late August 2024, but now might switch to the SHT. Following.
@JupiterHikes
@JupiterHikes Жыл бұрын
The bruce trail looks interesting! If I'm ever in the area again I'd go for it as well. The SHT is a bit shorter and hard to say but I think a bit more developed and used (in a good way), having a large community surrounding it, supporting it, and maintaining it. Either way seems like a fun time!

You should look at the north shore of Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant (my favorite hike, with a climb up to the top) but only off season to avoid the crowds. And you can extend the trail with the Wabayon Loop. Great in the fall. Alternately Isle Royale National Park. My favorite places on the continent.

how do you think the SHT compares to the Sheltowee for a first thru hike?
@JupiterHikes
@JupiterHikes Жыл бұрын
The next video will talk a lot more about this specifically but I think the SHT is better in that regard. There's almost no road walking, the towns are always nearby, there's a huge community surrounding the trail, the trail is incredibly well marked.... all around I think the SHT is hard to beat as a first thru hike as everything about it is just a friendly time. The Sheltowee on the other hand I do feel has more unique scenery.

Happy holidays! It was cool to see you hike my local trail! The sht is the only trail I have thru hiked. I've done it twice, once each of the last two summers. Your videos have definitely inspired me. I love the sht, it's such a peaceful, beautiful area. Soon I want to spread my wings and venture out of state to another trail when the weather is nicer. Thank you so much for all your videos. They inspire countless people to get outside more. My life has changed thanks to thru hiking. I am always excited about the possibility of adventuring. I would be curious about your thoughts on the SHT, how difficult you felt it was compared with some other trails you've done. I live in Bloomington MN. What midwest trail do u ou think I should hike next?
@JupiterHikes
@JupiterHikes Жыл бұрын
In regards to midwest trails, I think as you said you should spread your wings and head elsewhere :) Tahoe Rim Trail is a top tier hike for your list and could be done in a typical vacation timeframe. Closer to you would be the long trail of vermont, similar to the SHT but harder and a bit more epic when it comes to the views because of the higher elevations
