I learn so many hints of woodworking by watching your videos. I am NOT a woodworker, let alone a boat builder, but I learn tips to help me with my own small projects as I enjoy watching you do your large project. Thank you for sharing!

Nice work Dan. That strongback looks rock solid. Like building a house - get the foundations right first.

Loving this project and can’t wait to see the end result. Just one question spring to mind, and I’m sure you’ve thought about it, but will you be able to get the boat through the workshop door?

OMG, didn’t get a real sense of the size of this thing until you had to rearrange half of your workshop to get the strongback laid out. What a great build!

Your the best example of a phrase I heard a long time ago. "You can't have to many clamps!"

This whole episode reminded me so much of where I was with my own project just over a year ago. I too went for the right angled legs, made of formply, for exactly the same reason. But your project is much more massive - that's going to be a huge powerboat! Getting millimetre accuracy in that setup is next level.

Am I the only one who cant get his head round a boat builder being in the Cotswolds? That legendary centre of boat building that built the fleet that beat off the Spanish Armada … 😂 Awesome series, and I am thoroughly enjoying it - please keep it coming.

Let’s celebrate being able to see THE boat builder!!
@tomcoryellКүн бұрын
If a viewer is from the USA, most of us don’t know the Cotswolds from Newcastle Upon Tyne! The reality is that the canal system there will take you nearly anywhere compared to what we have.

Really enjoying watching the progress and process of the Temptress build! I am building my first boat right now with my Son and although I have a full size CNC, I thought it would be good to do all the frames the conventional way for my first build. I will for sure cut my components and frames on my next larger build. The ideas you have shown have been very helpful with planning for that.

The precision and stability of the strongback and the positioning legs with the added “beef” add so much confidence. Like others have said, spend your time on the foundations! Sharing a little experience from my relatively pedestrian first boat build; I laid down 1/8 hardboard on the floor of my garage to make a 16’X8’ pad upon which I built my 12’ skiff. It really helped even out the rough floor finish and also catch all the epoxy and paint drips.

Impressive step and nice progress... Would it make sense to lay a large piece of sacrificial particle wood at the bottom to glue the jig on once straightened and squared, depending on the quality of the floor? keep it up ! thank you for sharing
@johno1142Күн бұрын
Beautiful work!!! Have one question: why do you not pre-finish the bulkheads before installing them on the jig?
@DanLeeBoatbuildingКүн бұрын
They aren’t installed yet. I’ll do a trial dry fit of everything first and then pre finish before final installation.

Brilliant to see the build taking on boat shape Dan!!!🎉
@seanoharmaighКүн бұрын
Dan, you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Your floor is way off but it's very easy to compensate and level the frame it is not a mile-long boat.
@carlnewton1126Күн бұрын
Have you thought of using plastic kitchen unit legs which are adjustable and cheap to level the strong back?
@TMihelichКүн бұрын
Dan, will you be updating the Temptress plans adding the strong back details to allow dxf cnc cutting of the tenons and the pins used in them? That would be a great help.

Please consider adding more overhead lighting especially near the front of your shop.
@fultonfinewoodworksКүн бұрын
@@williammcrae3177 I find it harder to work in super bright environments, softer light allows me to easily see indentations and irregularities and matches the type of lighting that will be at the home the furniture will be installed in.
@DanLeeBoatbuildingКүн бұрын
Lighting is usually fine in the shop due to two big windows at the end. However, I was still shooting some of this video at 7pm last night which is why it seems darker than usual.
