Love your videos, they're a great insight for a pre-service teacher! Would love to see a video about the biggest learning curves of your first year and/or things you thought you would do/need but didn't!

It's absolutely insane that teachers don't get paid during the summer break in the US. I'm a high school teacher in Germany (for English and Spanish) and I get paid the same amount during the holidays as I get during school time. Why isn't that a thing in the US?
@muc4053 жыл бұрын
It depends on the school district and/or the teacher's personal preference. Most districts and teachers spread the teacher's salary across 12 months, but some teachers want to paid for the 9 months they teach and have larger paychecks for those months and then save money to live on for when they are on summer break while also working at a summer job to supplement their income. Younger teachers who are just starting out don't get paid as much as veteran teachers, so they also may work summer jobs to increase their income while school is not in session. But that can also be true for any teacher who wants to pick up extra cash over their time off.

@@muc405 Thank you so much for explaining! That makes a lot more sense - at least teachers get to choose. What's similar in Germany is that younger teachers get paid less than older ones, because we get a raise every 2 to 3 years automatically.
@kennawhitty58843 жыл бұрын
Germany also only has 6 weeks of summer vacation right? While she gets two months off. Don’t see it fair to get paid when you have holidays for so long.
@Tabbyhenne3 жыл бұрын
@@kennawhitty5884 Well, there's not that much of a difference between six weeks and two months, right? And, as for my experience, I work for about 3 weeks during the summer holidays so that's 3 weeks off. My boss once told me that teachers are expected to work more than 40 hours a week (I work about 45-50 hours per week) because we then work so much less during the holidays.. Kinda makes sense, too.
@kennawhitty58843 жыл бұрын
@@Tabbyhenne You’re right, there isn’t a big difference. For some reason I thought 2 months was 12 weeks. I’m dumb, sorry 😂 and yeah I can see why you’d need to work extra, grading papers and all that.
