Having the show devolve into the entire cast grabbing instruments and performing a cheesy non sequiter pop song was the most early 70s cartoon thing ever. My favorite part was when they dropped the 2 monsters fighting into the middle of it.

Actually that was Spock's pet sehlat, I'chaya from an episode of the animated series called "Yesteryear". I'chaya is killed protecting both young Spock and the visiting older Spock who has been flung there by the Guardian of Forever.

It's awesome that they got Noël Wells to break out her singing voice for this episode. For those who don't know, D'Vana Tendi was not the first green-skinned alien that she played. She played Lord Dominator in the Disney series Wander Over Yonder, and had sung a song in that called "I'm the Bad Guy." In fact, Fred Tatasciore (Shaxs in Lower Decks) provided the male voice for Lord Dominator while she's wearing her helmet, and he also had a line in that song as well.

I think that the main difference is that, while both were clearly made with Star Trek fans in mind as the audience, the 70s cartoon was for a children type of audience, while Lower Decks is more for adults.

I've been hating of these "VERY SHORT TREKS". But this one I practically liked. Anyone who grew up on FILMATION recalls those psychedelic Music Performance Montages they did on shows like "THE ARCHIES", "THE GROOVY GHOULIES", "THE HARDY BOYS", etc could see this as a cool tribute of sorts.

@@dralberthofmann Animation is typically done "on 2s" meaning they duplicate one frame, holding it out, and only providing a new animation every other frame. Animating on 1s makes for a more smooth experience, but it also means having to animate twice as many frames. Animation "on 6s" means holding one frame out for six frames, and would appear hilariously not-smooth, and that made me laugh. I don't know if Star Trek: The Animated Series was actually animated on 6s, but they notoriously used animation cost-saving measures, so I actually wouldn't be surprised. Even if not always, they certainly used slow or static frames at times. Riker saying they were animated on 6s is kind of a more intelligent way to say what Tendi said, that "their animation was a little stiff."

It started out doing the same joke as the first of these shorts, but had a much better ending. It's got a bit of the feel of Yellow Submarine's "It's All Too Much" scene.

This was the first of these shorts that actually felt like a loving tribute to Star Trek Animation. It is a shame that they still insist on ignoring the existence of a great show like Star Trek Prodigy.
