Aaah. Thank you, Dankie. Reminds me of the good old days when I started wave skiing in the late 70's. Had a Rowe ski, more of paddle ski, then upgraded to a Larmont Hotdog ski. A lifetime and a world away. Enjoy such a useful and fulfilling expenditure of time.

Hey Brendon. Thanks! What's holding you back to pick up waveski surfing again? I follow a lot of waveski communities on the social media and see there's lots of masters and veterans making a come back! Cheers!

@@brendonward4763 That's a valid excuse ;-) The prairies in Canada doesn't sound like a bad place to be. The Rocky Mountains in Canada is number 1 on my bucket list.

Great video thank you! One question, when I am trying to get a wave my waveski slides to one side when I lean back . Should I change my fins, to a bigger ones? what is the problem? thank you

Happy to hear you like the video. Regarding your question: I assume you are talking about catching broken waves... A few things you can look at: use your paddle for control and direction. Check if your side fins are fitted at the same distance in the box. Best size to start with is 3,5 inch thruster. It can also be your sitting position on your board , but that's difficult to say from this message. You can always contact me with a direct message on facebook or instagram @startwaveskisurfing, so we can chat about this. Or send me an e-mail on waveskivlog@gmail.com. Greetings, Paul

What size waves would you recommend for beginners. I've been hesitant with bigger waves, but found smaller ones just pass under me, despite hard paddling. Thank you. I have found a local Waveski group which I'm going to start joining them on their monthly get together.

Hi Paul. In general around 2 ft waves are good to start with. But it really depends on the surf break and the conditions what works good. I always advice to go out in all sorts of conditions. Frequency in your surfing is important for the muscle training and it makes you learn faster to analyse how waves work and how your board feels and reacts. But of course, keep it safe. If it's messy and big than stay at the first bank. And when it's flat you can do paddle and balance exercices and practice the eskimo roll. About the waves passing under you: a common mistake that beginners make is too paddle out too far and start paddling back way before the wave breaks. Observe where the wave breaks and stay close to that point. Also observe other surfers. See where they position. A benefit of the waveski in comparison to a surfboard is that we can surf smaller waves than surfers. So even when no one is out when the waves look crap, we can surf them with our waveski. But of course there are also plenty days that there is just not enough push in the waves and then you can paddle like crazy, but the waves just flow under you without any power. Try to find information on local surf forecast. Great to hear you can hook up with other waveskisurfers, they will help you with this a lot I expect. But try to go out at least once a week. I hope this was helpful. Don't hesitate to send me a dm if any more questions. Greetings, Paul

Just getting into Waveski. I'm a bit nervous of throwing myself in too deep, but your videos are great. I'm surprised at the lack of Waveski resources available. I have a question...how would you recommend beginners avoid running too shallow if riding a wave? (Jumping off waveski, trying a 180 turn etc?) Thank you!

Hey Paul! Good question and important one. Because you don't want to make a nosedive and break the nose of your board in the sand nor do you want to dig your head in the sand. It begins with knowing the spot where you surf. Where is it deep enough to start off on the wave and where are the sandbanks. If you are still surfing directly towards the beach and you're afraid you;re getting too undeep, yes, than you can throw yourself of your board. make sure you wear a leash so you don't have to swim to retrieve your board and to prevent your board is a missile and endangers other surfers. Try to turn the board 90 sideways before you jump of so a wave doesn't flip the board on the nose. ...(see also other comment for more)

part 2 .... Best thing to do is to learn to ride the wave diagonal as soon as you're ready for it. When you want to stop put your leg which is closest to the wave face in the water and lean a bit towards the wave, this will work as a break. If you need to you can throw yourself of the board. Always throw yourself between the wave and your board , not between your board and the shore. I hope this answers your question. Greetings, Paul
