The republic was destined to fall from its own corruption, all that the Sith and especially Palpatine did was simply accelerate the process and mold the results to his designs. He simply took advantage of the age old problems of the galaxy; corruption, conflict, resource and trade disputes, corporate greed, piracy and terrorism, class conflict, etc. The Republic was always going to collapse, Sith just made happen faster so they could reap the spoils.
