I always wondered how the First Order managed to crew their Resurgents seeing as they are much larger than the Empire's Star Destroyers. I would've expected they would've went with much smaller ships to compensate for their lack of people.
@lordfrostwind31517 жыл бұрын
My guess is greater automation along with fewer ships to spread the naval personnel across. While bigger one Resurgent class probably replaced two to four Imperial class star destroyers.
@side-beeetaloniswolfwolfac41797 жыл бұрын
Smaller ships can be more easily destroyed via concentrating fire on each ship one by one, the First Order needed something that can take hits as well as have enough firepower and fighters to make it a priority to take out, allowing the smaller ships to do their job. Hope that makes explanation makes sense!
@connorgolden47 жыл бұрын
Bigger ships, but less of them.
@MediumRareOpinions7 жыл бұрын
Automation. Just look at current naval Destroyer classes in service. They are larger than their predecessors, but have similar or even smaller crew compliments due to advancements in technology requiring fewer crew members to do the same ammount of work. I would wager that the larger Resurgent class has more advanced droids and integrated computers to perform much of its basic functions than the Imperial class did.

Empire relied at greater numbers to overwhelm and destroy rather than tactical strikes with fewer, but heavier armed craft. Though, I do see a trend throughout all of Star Wars media: Separatist Army = Use big ships and block everything, it's not like anyone could just go AROUND. Throw lots of droids/fighters at the Republic and hope they hit something. Build large weapons with lots of weakness's. Galactic Empire = Use big ships to make them look powerful. Throw lots of fighters at a problem and hope they blow something up. Build large weapons with easily exploited weakness's. First Order = Use big ships. Use smaller ships. Actually train pilots to fight and give smaller ships actual defenses. Build huge weapon with unprotected weakness. These people should just give up already.

If I recall correctly, the New Republic basically dissolved almost all military assets from the Galactic Civil War and kept almost no standing army to promote peace and prosperity like back in the day before the Clone Wars. The only standing military were pretty much designated as patrol fleets to deter pirates and some such, not large scale military forces ready for conflict. This is the latest Canon on this subject. It's been a little while since I last looked in to it so some of the details are a little fuzzy.

@briansouthparkstudio13577 жыл бұрын
here's a question why did the first order use the worst Tie variant as the bases of the design especially as they had other much better designs that they could improve like the interceptor which was meant to replace the normal Tie as it had stronger weapons (as it had 6 blaster to the normal Tie's 2) and a small profile to target from the sides as well as being faster. also if they wanted to have a powerful fighter why did they not just used Tie defenders and build upon that design. they would have still had those designs even if they lossed the Tie advanced(which was replaced by the defender anyway) and phantom (which was uncommon and likely the technology was lossed in the chaos of the fall of the empire) most of the other designs are no longer cannon so i wouldn't talk of them

There might have been a compromise between quality and mass producibility. The flat wing panels are interchangeable from either left or right side, can slide out of a narrow 3D printer and are as tough as shields against small arms fire as seen in the film. The even fit uniformly in racks as well as on the ground. It could have been a "re-invent the wheel" scenario to them. Plus they technically are proto typing with the Tie Silencer.

Why did the Venetors never use all 400 star fighters but rather small squads in battles?
@yaboytev91817 жыл бұрын
CHomab Cjabeb One possible explanation, and I'm totally guessing, is that they probably didn't have 400 pilots. i work with maintenance for the air force and even though you might have 40 planes maybe only 10-20 are being flown that week. And those are the same pilots taking off, landing, resting a bit and then taking off again in another plane. The other other planes are either scheduled for maintenance or being used as spares in case a jet on the schedule breaks unexpectedly. So while they carried 400, maybe on 200-250 where good to go, but the number of pilots was probably only 100

Why do that if you don't have to never put all your eggs in the same basket if you deploy them all then your enemy knows what your carrying but if you hold some back it keeps you enemy guessing pulse sending them all out eats up a lot of fuel and other resources
@chomabcjabeb2337 жыл бұрын
Michael Reed But if you send 400x3 instead of the usual 20x3, you will match the vulture droid numbers while having better pilots which means you can destroy the enemy easily which would mean that noone could tell the rest of the seperatist aboot the almost insane number of fighters
@yaboytev91817 жыл бұрын
CHomab Cjabeb i checked the info for the Venator it carried a crew of 7,400 so disregard my comment about the pilot numbers. I'm assuming they never used the full number of pilots was because compared to clone pilots, the AI for the separatist fighters weren't the brightest, typically only winning because of sheer overwhelming numbers. But 9 times out of 10 even when they were outnumbered the republic would still win starship to starship combat. As the commentor above posted it would be overkill to send out all 400, and keeping some on standby in the ship would allow the Captain to react quickly to any new enemy forces attempting to engage them.

Exaaaaactly!!!! The First Order TIE fighter makes no sense, except to look like the old empire. And, lack a resources so they don't want to lose pilots?!?! Why build another Death Star. The Death Star took to Empire 20 years to build. And at least 4 years to rebuild. You saying the First Order, with way less resources managed to build a 3rd bigger one? Resources, uh huh, sure.
A great explanation for the First Orders new TIE fighter model. You didn't cover on why they're two seaters though. Maybe all of them r not. Although the TIE Fin and Poe stole had two seats in it with a laser cannon that fired back wards. Clearly that one was a lot larger than your average single man's star fighter.

So much, that the new TIE fighters still die in one shot, also making a carrier type ship makes little sense, when your star figthers are equipped with hyperdrives.
@DrewLSsix7 жыл бұрын
TK-315 CloneM. it makes perfect sense, fighter pilots wont want to live in the cockpit and its not practical to deploy squadrons from some home base to a battle.
@clone3_77 жыл бұрын
Just think about the Rebellion, they had few carriers, and fighters usually returned to home bases. The TIE is also faster (at least the old TIE used to be), than the X wing so, returning to base doesn't sound bad (especially since Star Killer base stored TIE-s). Meanwhile having to launch from a carrier is always risky, the hangar can be underfire, rebels can dispatch TIE-s who just launched, the Hangar bay can be destroyed. It also adds unnecessary weaknesses (like TIE-s having a hard time taking off, easier infiltration missions [for the resistance] etc). I still don't understand why it is not practical to deploy from home bases, the only con of it, is that deployment takes longer. The base can also be under fire, but it is harder to keep ships pinned there.
@TheDjbz7 жыл бұрын
Well, the use of the fighters changes depending on how they are needed to operate. The Rebels were performing hit and run attacks (typically) and were not really meant to engage in a protracted battle, so the discomfort the pilot would endure from extended time in the cockpit during hyperspace would be minimal. (We never get any real indication on how fast star wars hyperdrives are) Engaging in a long battle after a couple hours(or even days possibly in some cases) in hyperspace would be really detrimental to a pilot's abilities. As for the shield thing- every single Tv/film show has shields power vary wildly depending on the plot so what we see on screen can't really be relied on (Games are actually better for the "real" abilities of fictional craft in many ways, as they are at least consistent, within the game itself, as to how durable the ships are)
@dmgevan75857 жыл бұрын
This is an old episode now, but why didn't you mention the fact that these Ties were 2 seaters? From what I can tell, The Empire's Ties were only one seaters. This means that the main chassis of the First Order Tie Fighters were larger and allowed 1 soldier to focus solely on firing at the enemy and 1 on piloting. Also, completely separate question, did The Empire actually have an official name other than just, "The Empire"?
@SkellingtonWheel7 жыл бұрын
This is an old comment now :P But in answer to your second question, it was officially "The Galactic Empire"
@papaofthejohns58827 жыл бұрын
If ya think about it, if the Empire devoted as much to Ties as the First Order did (they could have tenfold due to their resources) they would have won the war. It was because of how inefficient the Ties were that they never caught fleeing Rebels or posed a threat to ships.
@clone3_77 жыл бұрын
Because their cost was diverted to Imperial Star Destroyers. Which should have destroyed anything in their path, and should catch most rebel ships with their tractor beams. They haven't got any zero point defence guns (which was its main weakness), but that is why they were carrying TIE-s, that they could hold enemy fighters and bombers. The strategy of the Galactic Empire was good, but the plot required them to be defeated, so they got defeated.
@pastelnuclear73567 жыл бұрын
Every star destroyer should have small hyperspace inhibitors like the Interdictor, fitted to capture small starfighters instead. large capital ships wouldn't be trapped in the field but small x/y/a/etc-wings would. This tactic alone would fuck up the rebellion, and it's most significant forces in space battles. you can't hit and run without fleeing right? this would force them to attack the Star Destroyers head on if they want to get away. but until that, too late. the SD would be able call reinforcements if needed. The SD also needs more anti-starfighter defense systems. anti fighter missiles, quick batteries like our real world anti-missile CIWS system, instead of relying on slow, heavy turbolasers.

What if another galaxy decided to invade that certain galaxy? what's the point of dismantling that galaxy's army. if there is a fight between light and dark in that galaxy what if there is the same thing in other galaxies? wouldn't there be trades between other galaxies? trade in tech resources which are unique to its galaxy's and its solar systems in comparison to other? Funny thing here, the First Order, to have superior fighters, should have adopted a interceptor doctrine instead of a fighter doctrine. Why would this help them? Interceptors generally tended to be quicker, more maneuverable, and focused more on elimination of enemy fighter groups. Had the First Order taken, modified, and modernized some A-wings, imagine how much more lethal their air to air power would have been. Have the TIE's run a defense grid behind the interceptors to catch anything that would break through and also deter threats by drawing attention away from the capital ships to the improved TIE fighters. After the dogfighting came to a close, recall the interceptors and order the TIE's to attack the enemy capital ships and/or escort boarding/sabotage parties.

I never thought I'd see the day when someone would spend more time than Peter Griffin would coming up with excuses. People hated the prequels because they were to different (HA! gross oversimplification). People hated the new ones because they were to much the same and so you spent god only knows how much time explaining how different this "new" tie fighter is from the original when all they really had to do was use the tie defender instead.
@CteCrassus7 жыл бұрын
The "limited resources" line sounds really hollow as an excuse when you take into account that the First Order somehow had the resources to build a Death Star five times bigger (which I call the Death Constellation) *AND* a battlefleet and ground army large enough to wage war at a galactic scale *at the same time* The *only* reason the First Order has Tie Fighters is because the entire premise of the new trilogy can be summarized in "Remember Star Wars?".
@Belgarathe7 жыл бұрын
This is like an argument that German needed better tanks during wwii vs Russian who basically welded crap together in mass number. Crew prefer to ride in German tanks which had more creature comfort while the Russian just wanted something in great numbers. Guess who won in battle of Kurst
@pastelnuclear73567 жыл бұрын
and just like that, the rebellion/resistance would be fucked up. it would be 50 guys against a mass wave of 3000 on Endor alone. and most engagements would go that way.

Just the second gun! In a fire fight it can shot down slower or chasing fighters. The chances of a succesful destroy is basicly doubled. Seeing fin though and the resistance, they are still not a threat, but maybe against the new Republic or what it's called.
@sik3xploit7 жыл бұрын
Despite the supposed lack of resources they still managed to make a super weapon out of their damn planet larger than the Death Star. One that could destroy multiple worlds in a single shot at that... Just the same as armor, I guess you could call that "plot resources"
@emperorsean17 жыл бұрын
how come tie fighters and first order storm troopers are still so easily defeated then? Do first order tie fighters have lightspeed engines?
@clone3_77 жыл бұрын
Cannon fodder will always remain cannon fodder, you can give them better training and equipment, which slightly increases their surival rate, but that only makes them costy cannon fodder.
@juggalo1847 жыл бұрын
The empire's TIE fighters were crap, because there needed to be some explanation for why the rebellion were always able to fight and or beat the empire's fighters head to head. This is the same reason we keep hearing stupid reasons why stormtroopers are constantly failing vis-a-vis rebels, Princess Leia, E-woks etc. Basically these are ad-hoc excuses for lazy writing and unrealistic plot holes in the original trilogy.
@linkeffect826 жыл бұрын
Not really, real history has examples of leaders who follow this similar philosophy of expendable troops sent en-mass to overwhelm, WW 2 having a keen example in human soldiers sent en-mass to overwhelm well defended trenches. It's callous, but depending on the situation, and clearly the military and governmental leaders as well, treating your troops as expendable fodder and equipping them accordingly is not unheard of, and it fits the callous mind of a tyrant as Palpatine.
@AlexinCobra7 жыл бұрын
All that still didn't change anything in the battle against the small wing of Resistance X-wings that slaughtered the Tie fighters as if they had no shields still. So what's the point? You high trained pilots are still dying just like clone pilots.

But they went back to the less superior design of flat panels. "We'll upgrade the internal components but go back to a design that isn't maneuverable in atmosphere and leaves a giant, easy target to hit!" Brilliant.
@robjohn48427 жыл бұрын
Couldn't have been that much better, they're still essentially useless. In TLJ, he Millenium Falcon flies into the middle of dozens of them, kills most of them, draws the rest off, and returns to the base unscathed. Or all the other examples of a handful of x-wings laying waste to seemingly endless waves of First Order Ties. They're the storm troopers of the sky. Mostly useless cannon fodder.
@thelonious22137 жыл бұрын
But if the fo and sf TIE fighters had shields, how did the Millenium Falcon one-shot them? Maybe because it was THE Millenium Falcon.
@owenthomas29147 жыл бұрын
There seem lots of contradictions in this argument, if these FO fighters are 'top of the range' why do they have more in common with the design of the basic tie fighter than any of it's better more expensive contemporarys, and why dose it always lose out to even lesser quantity of X wings which are not even specifically anti-fighter ships? To me it looks clear that while the FO may value there fighters and pilets more than the empire they still favor the easy to produce/maintain/repair/store factor of the simple original design for its mass deployability over individual quality, with what individual improvements have been made beina a natural result of technological progress more than change in design philosophy.
@wargodsix7 жыл бұрын
Since the first order was a rebellion against the new republic they didn't have the imperial funding so reusing old design would be a lot cheaper I really wish they would of used the concepts even for that guys shuttle they had way better concepts

I think one of the many mistakes of the sequels was trying to mimic the first movies in design. The really should have made the Interceptor design the main design of the 1st Order tie.
@CHRIStoriker927 жыл бұрын
Because the First Order is just a smaller organisation compared with the former Galactic Empire and so they have less troopers ? So they have to build advanced ships etc.

I still don't get why the First Order never thought to simply replace the standard Tie fighter design with the vastly superior Tie Interceptor? If Palpatine was planning to replace all Tie Fighters with Interceptors anyway, why didn't the First Order invest their resources into upgrading the more advanced fighter rather than sticking with its outdated predecessor?
@GrandMoffClubby7 жыл бұрын
One thing u left out, the first order gave the tie fighters the ability to shoot at anything behind them and have copilots to fire them

So the First Orders TIE fighters were better than Imperial ones but they cant land hits on the Millennium Falcon like Imperial ones did? Also, why are First Order TIEs looking like Viper ACRs. They cool enough to don the offset stripe.

First order's less bureaucratic regime? It's not like the Empire was too bureaucratic either. The republic was and that was the problem. Empire just had to follow what the Emperor and his Moffs wanted. There was hardly any in fighting and maneuvering. If the mepreror says so it is done.
