But because the word football is usually used to refer to whichever form of football is most popular in the regional context in which it is used, in the U.K. we refer to soccer as football because we don't play the American version of football. I hope that makes sense aha! Basically soccer in the rest of the world = football in the U.K. 😊 Wayne Rooney is an incredibly popular player.
