First time I got the Black Heart curveball was in Cascade Hills on Lethal difficulty. It was hiding in a restaurant in Ditchwater. It was in a small room inside the building, so I had no choice but to go in. I lost my entire squad of six to it. Now I'm a little better in dealing with Black Hearts, but it's still a fearsome curveball. You really, really need to prepare well and strategize before taking on a Black Heart. It certainly doesn't help that its miasma drains all your fuel and you have to do it on foot.

Got my 1st black heart yesterday. Didn't know that fuel gets drained. Got stranded across map and lost my two members. Was so confused why my car kept losing fuel.

Fun fact, black hearts can vary from draining fuel to slowly damaging you, melee resistant to strong and fast zeds In short black hearts are definitely difficult 😞

The plague bloater expoding was like hitting the heart with a plague buster grenade

there is a glitch that if a zombie intersects with the plague heart or something of that nature, a singular bloater gas explosion can OHKO it. does work on black hearts as well

It's quite uplifting to see that Jay has no clue why it happened since it means he didn't know about the glitch and hasn't ever taken advantage of it in any previous playthroughs I only just found out about the glitch towards the end of my nightmare playthrough a month or two ago and have no intention of ever using it myself

@@TheZeevil I had heard of it, have only ever had it go off by accident I think twice. Requires way too much prep and is even more dangerous as you are in a room of bloater grenade gas. and that can kill in under 30 seconds

My first Black Heart was with my little brother - I just got him into State of Decay - and we killed it together so we lucked on it until I faced it by myself. I don't I've ever wasted as much resources on a Black Heart since playing SoD. These Curveball ideas are awesome.

Gonna sound like dumb advice but I watched two of my friends loose people like thus. DO NOT take untrained fresh characters to a black heart holy moly it eats them like trail mix.

Sup Jay plauge hearts in the barn at 21:20 actually are cheesable. Just park your car with the hood against the heart. You can climb the car then and hit the heart as long as you want. Hope that helps :D

i dont remember when or where i last heard it, but im pretty sure your companions (including hired help from enclaves) dont make any sound when they fire their weapons. i mean you can hear them clearly, but the zeds cant. so it can make for some pretty cheesy ways to deal with hoards. i believe enclave npc's (that are not hired) however do make some noise, which is useful for diverting attention away from you when you're getting chased. some people even use that to their advantage by making nearby enclaves their dedicated distraction for the area, while hiring one of the other enclaves for disposable help, its productive in the short term but when enclaves drop from 3 (default) to 2 people) they tend to leave soon, so if its a really good enclave like those with the bed & breakfast perk, overflow barracks, roadside assistance, caravans, jogging buddies, fight club, rooftop sniper, and boozehounds are too useful to waste on bait.

you can use bloater gas grenade + fire lie flare/ fireworks for easy kill usually 3 bloater gas grenade enough to kill a normal lethal zone plague heart .

Not easy to come across though, especially as I’m not in Trumbull nor do I have the bio chem crafting facility mod Plus it would take 18 gas grenades to take down 1 black heart

I love SOD2 so much and I have like 300 hours on it (and even though I've never played above dread) I thought I knew a majority of the strats but I've never seen anyone save bullets during plague hearts like that before. I know on higher difficulties and this mod hearts have some much health that 60 bullets might not matter but is there any reason you save bullets? Edit: Nvm, made it to 20:01 😂. Great video, man. Can't wait to see more

Mainly bullets are expensive, much easier to fix a damaged heavy weapon than make ammunition
