I could only wish we could do what this guy did, but unfortunately, not everyone can just choose to walk away. My mother had cancer. She had to go to joburg Gen after the fire we also ended up at barra and Helen Joseph. My mother was in her late 70's. We found the same rude attitudes at all 3 hospitals. They don't even respect old people with a deadly sickness. When it's time for increases the unions are very fast to point out, these are our "mother's and sisters" but the reality is, they treat our parents and us like dirt in our time of need. These nurses and admin staff are shameless

My daughter was treated in the worst way a month ago at that same hospital to the point that she feared for her life with the treatment she received from some of the nurses and one of the doctor's. I was given the documents ..i waited for my family , then the funeral parlour to remove him. I didn't even get a call from the hospital or doctors. 😓M talking about a private hospital. Some of the doctors are fine. But I will never forget that day.💔
@Thatotherguy803Ай бұрын
@alexburnside3741 I am sorry for your loss. I assume you have a medical ad, and this empowers you to never use that hospital again. The problem with public hospitals is that you get assigned to a hospital and a doctor, and you are stuck with them no matter how bad the situation gets. You are forced to accept being mistreated because you have no other option. Where with the private sector, you can simply opt for a second option. But don't have to be silent about what happened to you. Make it as public as you possibly can, find others who had the same experience. If it is something common, you won't have a hard time getting more support. This can cause a boycott of that hospital. That is the power the people have over private entities.

It is not the only hospital where this lack of care has been experienced. Take, for instance, a distressing case at Steve Biko Memorial Hospital, where a patient with a suspected broken back lay unattended in the casualty ward for three days. Stories like these are not isolated incidents but part of a disturbing trend. Such experiences highlight the broader systemic issues in our hospitals, where patients often feel like mere numbers rather than human beings in need of care. But no matter the challenges our medical professionals face, the lack of fundamental care and compassion is unacceptable.

My mum was in & out of Helen Joseph over a period of 5 painful years. Admitted every time her lungs filled with fluid. On one of these occasions I had to use the ladies bathroom. The nursing sister told me 'I cant allow you to use the toilet because I know you wont sit but will stand in there & we dont have a mop'. I asked why a ward does not have a mop. Her response was that the government has no money to buy mops. I left my very ill mom there for a moment & went out of the Helen Joseph Hospital precinct & across the road to a house & asked if I could use the toilet. Thankfully I was kindly allowed... I always dreaded those occasions when my mum had to go in. Wouldn't use the bathrooms because they were always out of order & filthy & this despite the hospital employing cleaning staff..

The state of Helen Joseph has been in a downward spiral for years. The emergency area is filthy. When changing a drip or taking blood in the emergency area, the dirty floor is often used as a table !! Does not take Einstein to use a medical bowl instead of the floor if no table nearby. Baragwanath Hospital follows the same downward spiral. Rahima Moosa is disgusting to name a few. Many of the government medical institutions are disgusting and patients are treated with disdain. Seen patients in the Helen Joseph emergency area who have to wait for days before being admitted to a ward given food with no utensils and patients have to eat with their hands...hands that have not been washed!! This is just the tip of the iceberg. No wonder patients are getting worse or are dying like flies. The government cannot even fix or run the medical institutions properly. It is corruption at the highest level! And they want to have NHI. Absolute resolving NO to NHI !!. The governing powers need their house in order to serve the people not serve their pockets and then point the finger outward to distract from what they are doing and brainwash the masses.

That hospital stinks 24/7. I live close by the hospital , patients normally take 24hours to see a doctor. The people that say this hospital is clean are messed up or that's how their houses looks and smell you'll nasty. Go there now as a normal person and walk true the wards not just one ward but all wards see the process how you get handled by the nurses to the doctors go see the state of the beds the floor and toilets. I remember last year I went with a friend to go visit a family member at Helen J.H at the time it was already smelling like human fece (pooh & pee , ens.). Then we saw the cleaner came to clean the toilet closet to us. The smell that came from that toilet made us get up and leave , it was like the cleaning woke up a dead sleeping smell worse smell I ever smelled in my life worse then the smell of death. Don't let people tell you that place is clean don't be fooled go see for yourself , seeing is believing.

I did experience that . On February end 2024, Mu brother was admitted on Friday morning at about 11am . in Far East Hospital in springs. When I reach there on Sunday 7 mp. Third day at the hospital. I was shoked. My brother's bed was at a passage. When I ask the staff where is mr ...., they pointed at him. I hear his voice sreaming. He was on tereble pain. Since Friday until I reach there Sunday evening,he was sreaming every 2mnts. I asepted him to be at the passege, I thought maybe the ward is full. But surprisingly,his wife went to visit him on Tuesday, she was with a freind. That freind of her was a social worker, so the stuff so them coming and they run to move my brother from the passege the ward before they reach there. And they start working on him like never before.

Our people rather want to die with respect at home instead of been treated without respect.

In kraaifontein is exactly the same the staff is are extremely rude especially to the old people... all you have to is to go home feeling so bad, when you return you get ignored totally... they mark you and you treated like worse than a dog... the security is charge in placing the people in which place to go, even if you just come and get medication you stand for hours outside, if you come see doctor it's even worse, the staff is so lazy the security guard tells you what to do and where to go.

It's not only Helen Joseph it is most of the public health service hospitals in South Africa it's a disgrace from the doors of the hospital all the way to the professors horror stories every day it's horrible they'll call you send you home come back next month it's like every one working at the public hospitals are doing voluntary work but the fact of the matter is that they are all well taken care of with a lovely salary and a lot of benefits to boot... Thank you for bringing this problem I'm sorry sir this rubbish is rife in all the hospitals no dignity no compassion no dedication to sir it's all the hospitals please stop trying to pretend that it's only Helen Joseph absolutely not!!!!!!!!
