This may seem strange, but here we go. I suffer from Severe Chronic Depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and PTSD, I also care for my partner who has Depression, GAD, Severe Social Anxiety and Borderline Personality Disorder...my conditions are well controlled by medication, CBT and experience but over the last 3 days I have been going through the worst depressive period I have experienced in over 10 years. Somehow, watching your State of Origin documentaries has pulled me out of it! Forget that the docs are exciting, informative, dramatic and a pleasure to watch...you have somehow brought light back into me...Thank you very much! I hope you are blessed in the rest of your life's work and ambitions. Sincerely, Drew Mannie

Between Mark Murray's forced retirement and the trial BNE/SYD game, Alfie was even considered a borderline choice as the best halfback among BRL teams. Geoff Bagnall played his tail off for Norths and was definitely a solid prospect. But Alfie was immediately transformed by playing Origin. He was a good halfback for the Jets, but as soon as he started playing for the Maroons, it was as if all the promise he showed at club level instantly came out. And once the promise was realised, he maintained at that level.

Wow! Thanks for another great production. I was there for games 1 and 3, in the outer at the Caxton Street end. For some reason, we didn't have beer cans to throw when NSW scored that dodgy try on full time, but the referee and touch judges got off the ground pretty quick anyway. The place went mad when we got up in the third game. The old Lang Park was definitely more fun than the new stadium. Great days.

Fantastic doco, I was 14 when this was on TV in NZ. TBH I couldn't remember much of it so all of those smashing Lewis tackles were great. Shared on FB.

I was eight years old. I remember that first game, after the try that Mick Stone awarded. (which turned out to be the right decision) All of Lang Park started calling out "BULLSHIT ........BULLSHIT ........BULLSHIT" collecting cans in the outer. Them were the days :) Thankyou Great doco mate.

Gordon Langton is a tremendous loss to rugby league. I often wonder what would have been if he’d have gone on with it, and perhaps paired with Steve Renouf in the centres at the broncos.

In 120 SOOrigin games played, NSW have used 75 more players than QLD. - NSW -292 vs QLD - 217. I reckon that these numbers have a lot to do with QLD's success over the 40 year period. In saying that , it still shows how close this great concept has been, with QLD winning 64 games to NSW winning 54 games, with 2 draws. Just something I find interesting with the approach of both States......

Andrew Johns: an Immortal. Allan Langer: not an Immortal. Please explain.
@DanmarskyAus
@DanmarskyAus 4 жыл бұрын
Yes Lewis, I agree mate. Allan Langer should definitely be an immortal. His career and achievements rank with the very best. I won't knock Andrew Johns, as he also was an extremely gifted and accomplished Footballer, however if I could start a team from scratch I would certainly choose Langer as my Halfback ahead of Johns primarily because you know he will play in every game and be consistent and have a great attitude. Johns was very injury prone and missed a huge amount of games in his prime. You just couldn't rely on him week to week like you could Alfie.

I agree Alf is a true Legend of the game and has done far more then Joey has in the game,even Joey's team mate cheif Harrigan said the only bloke you couldn't read on the field was Alf Langer he was even choosen as Australian Half back ahead of the Joey when his form wasn't the best.
@beng1e1
@beng1e1 4 жыл бұрын
I think Joey got the nod ahead of Alf because Joey transformed the way half-backs play. He created the modern day half-back. However, Alf was in my opinion the more consistent of the two. So I agree mate, Alf should be an immortal.

The Great Brett Kenny played 12 games at 5/8 against the Great Wally, for 8 wins and 4 losses. In the centres he played 4 times for 4 losses. That is why NSW lost the decider.

WHY DO YOU NEED MUSIC DROWNING OUT THE COMMENTARY ?

The music was great - it adds to the fact that you're watching something grand and magnificent from 30 years ago. You can still hear the calls and commentaries... so please stop knocking.

Maton View you miss the point of my statement, I have nothing against the music but it overpowers the video the football is why people watch they / we don’t want to be deafened by, so called, background music.
@matonatomic
@matonatomic 4 жыл бұрын
A Wiganer - actually by your reasoning, you do have something against the music, by it being there. I disagree with you because I think the music does add an additional effect. You know purists will say, “Why would you even need commentary? Wouldn’t you rather hear the pure hits and contacts of the players?” So in reality commentary, is like music in that it adds another effect to action that you’re watching.
