The 27th commandant of the United States Coast Guard Adm. Linda L. Fagan delivers her first State of the Coast Guard Address, Tuesday, in Washington, DC.
Adm. Fagan provides her vision for the future of the service and her commitment to prioritizing support for the Coast Guard workforce.
She discusses the growing demand for Coast Guard operations throughout the world, and how advances in technology, changes in the global economy, and the impacts of climate change influence this demand.
Adm. Fagan outlines how the Coast Guard will continue to facilitate and protect the uninterrupted flow of commerce in the rapidly changing Marine Transportation System. She emphasized the importance of new Coast Guard assets and shore facilities, which are critical to national security, public safety, and the future success of the service.

Saying “Sentinels” instead of Coast Guardsman is rather insulting.

One thing the Coast Guard needs to look at is restrictions on recruits due to menial conditions. Like colorblindness and adhd. As a person interested in joining the coast guard i am severely restricted due to my minor colorblindness that does not affect my daily life. And many other potential recruits suffer similar issues that restrict them or totally disqualify them altogether from USCG service.

Im currently talking to a recruiter. I will sign on the dotted line if I could be an AMT, however you have to sign first then go to get a flight physical. I am worried if I don't pass the flight physical I would be stuck with a job that i don't want until my contract is up. Please make it where I can get a flight physical before I sign my life away. Its the only thing keeping me from signing.

Good day, a large majority of Coasties join the USCG as a non-rate after Basic Training. While working as a non-rate you will put your name on an A-School list that you qualify for. Qualifications are based on your ASVAB scores, flight physical, etc. No one will ever put your name on an A-School list without your input. That said, there are some pipeline programs that get you to AMT A-School faster. These do require you to pass the flight physical while at Basic Training. But even if you fail your basic training flight physical, you can try again as a non-rate.

BZ!!! Got this old auxie fired up! Now I gotta find more missions I can do with my busted up old body! It'll be fun and undoubtedly rewarding in intangible ways! I DO hope we will have a stronger arctic presence, I have a feeling we'll be needing more of that. "Semper paratus?" is actually a question we have to ask ourselves every day, and we have to make sure to come up with the right answers.

In the late 1990s while tracing my family history, I learned that Ellsworth Price Bertholf was married to my 7th cousin, twice removed. I joined the USCG in May 1971 serving on LORAN stations in Thailand and on the Island of Iwo Jima until 1974. I joined not to avoid the draft, but to gain technical skills and benefits of the GI Bill. I thought the time might be an adventure on ice breakers. Originally asked for mechanical rating, but was assigned to electronics. The training and GI Bill have worked well for my career over the years. Nice to see the military finally including women in all ranks.
