I never stopped playing Demo, and always cranking the meters. The one thing that annoys sometimes is aligning your demons with tyrant, essentially when you have to move (or die) and missed tyrant. Now that dogs give 100 pct cores back I enjoy the spec even more.

You will probably find your secondary stats played a role in what spec did more. I carry 3 different sets for Aff/Demo/Destro.

As an Aff enjoyer this video is depressing, but I have to agree. Going into any pack without soul rot feels awful. I like demo too, so I will definitely give that a shot in some keys this week.

yeah if you are puging youre kick stunning can ruin a pull by holding a caster outside the stack or if nobody kicks it can just sit there casting which is basically the same thing and not having imp dispel either for devouring, last boss siege, second boss city is just griefing your healer other than that demo dmg profile is actually alot better overall

Definitely feels like the happy medium. Aff is too CD reliant and Destro has kind had problems with very long ramp up time (for non Cata/CDF builds anywho). Demo atleast overcomes these problems and can adapt to different key levels.

Hellcaller aff feels like a ton of fun right now, and IMO is underrated. The ST isn't great, but after the wither buff, it is serviceable. For AOE, as long as you have vile taint up at the start of a pack and the pack lives for 25+ seconds, the AOE feels consistently pretty good. And if you have soul rot, it feels fantastic. Refreshing agony is a little annoying, but if you do it right, you get the unstable agony bursts, which feel nice

Demo is the best for pugs and random groups because it has good burst on every pack, with Diabolist, dogs, hound, implosion, felguard, you just get that tyrant that pumps you up, it’s not nearly as peak and valley when you don’t have your soul rot or your tank is running around lifting mobs out of rain of fire

The lack of a proper felhunter interrupt is what kills it for me half the time - being unable to kick a caster that's outside the group in is an often enough occurance that I end up just playing destro. Wish they'd just made the pvp interrupt baseline instead of baking it into the felguard.

Can confirm. I main Affliction and my raid just downed heroic Queen last night. One player switched from ele shaman to a demo lock and absolutely mopped the floor with most of the raid, myself included. Guess I'm switching to demo.

The problem with demonology I have is the interrupt. I hate axe toss. It interrupts and stuns minor enemies so targeting a caster mob like in Necrotic wake doesnt make it go towards your tank - so does nothing for grouping mobs together. Very annoying on 2nd necrotic wake boss. Also - pet reliance, if you die and get CRed and your insta-cast summon is on CD you are cooked. Also - being forced to use one pet, unlike on other specs on which you can sometimes pull out an imp to deal with dispel if no interrupts are necessary. Overall Demonology is often affected by "awkwardness" like losing your imps randomly to some movement-related mechanics, watching your imps die off in the "in-combat" intermission (hello Dawnbreaker) pets targeting random shit or nothing at all (hello dawnbreaker cocoons on one of the mini-bosses), borking your massive implosion on a leaping mob, it gets pretty cringe at times. I'm glad destro is somehow viable because it feels way more reliable.

I love Demo and Destro so don’t get me wrong. I totally hear your points here. Was a little surprised you didn’t touch on the relative mobility between the two. It seemed to be a major issue for Demo (seemed a little too “casty”) unlike Destro with Conflag and SBurn. Did the recent change to Dogs and Cores “fix Demo” in your opinion? How is Demonology, which should be focused on the demons, the spec that is least able to use different demons? Doesn't make sense. Instead of just Felguard focused buffs, it should be either buffs for any summoned demon, or specific buffs for the specific summons. Demonology should be showing versatility through the various summons.

As a main Demonology player, I can finally enjoy playing Warlock in this expansion. The change to the Dreadstalkers' core generation has been huge, and now I have enough demonic cores to complete the rotation about 80% of the time.

I see a lot of comments about demo setup and dealing with mechanics in M+. It definitely is a problem but one way to remedy it is to speed everything up. I overcap on haste (28%), put a 1000 speed enchant on my bracers, and always take the burning rush speed increase, all to try and minimize downtime. All of it adds up and helps a lot, pretty much all of my tyrants have at least 7 imps.

I know what his saying but demo is way more punishing to play in mplus then aff and destro and it’s stun doesn’t work on all the mobs. also it does lose a lot of damage still from movement. While the rotation isn’t the hardest it’s the most punishing and it has more micro managing to it than just sending cds like you do aff and destro. If you want io play aff it’s by far the easiest to play atm.

Big agree that the whole issue with demo is that it's always shown by high end players or by sims, and there it looks amazing. Average players are punished so hard if you desync dogs or god forbid you miss a tyrant extension on the dogs. Meanwhile destro and even aff you can just roll with the mistake and still do 75-90% of the dps you would if you had done it perfectly.

I play hellcaller aff and its very consistent. Even with no cds just seed and manual agony i hover under 2 mil dps in a 5 target pack. If you build around wither and not rapture its very easy to do good damage.

ive been cranking with demo this whole time. so the buffs just super nice. just have a destro build to swap to for last boss of SoB. i dont play sunder or invocation instead i do the db sbolt damage amp and the dogs buff for every shard in hand of guldan. the amount of single target you get compared to aoe is a lot. and when you start doing 12s and up the bosses last for a long time lol. i also use the infernal machine in diabolist.

Love your content and I appreciate your contribution to the community. Unfortunately do to the amount of frustration and punishment this season I am removing all my subs from my KZbin. I get so much anxiety and frustration from M+ and the 8 +10 keys, 90 crests, and the dozens of hours needed just to have a spot on a raid team or to get into a raid team. Gearing is not enjoyable and I've left a couple guilds just because of how they distribute gear. I spend 20 minutes getting into keys and then they fail. After a couple hours of having other people fail the key I am overwhelmingly frustrated and I cannot outplay other players failures. M+ is too punishing and required too much. I hate spending hours getting no reward every week and then filling my vault just to be disappointed. I need to take a break and I'm removing all my subs just so I dont' get reminded of the game. I'll probably come back when things change, but for now I need to purge this punishing game out of my life. Thank you for all you do big dawg

I am a demo player, but there are 3 dungeons in this season that I'm not allowed to play in, which is siege, dawn and necrotic wake. Siege, people demand imp on last boss which will not work great with demo. N.wake, 3rd boss is a big problem because the hook still pulls pets even though there was a patch to fix it. Dawn, huge dps loss in the beginning when you travel between ships since you lose all imps when you take off. Sometimes, the imps pulls packs when you flying around the town after 1st boss

Demo works best always for me including dragon isles. It is consistent/predictable to play…can min-max it easier to pull ahead of other specs…less penalty for moving or lag because of pets. Affl has always been pain to play trying to maintain dots. Dest has some satisfying burst, but feels like you’re a gimp mage otherwise…too much reliance on hard casting and being glued to the ground. Despite what sims say, for me demo much higher dps in mythic…just easy mode mindless hand/implosion/dogs alone blows stuff up every pack, with cooldowns just icing on the cake.

This first pull is always weak as demo since you have to hard generate shards/imps. The NEXT pull is where you pop off because you're flush with imps and cores, with dogs, sunder, a ruination saved up, etc. Been playing demo in M+ the whole time and no one dares to pull that big in 8-10's so it's shorter cd's line up a lot better from pack to pack.

Re-gearing my lock since I picked it up I'm incredibly impressed with the DPS Demo is doing in mid-level keys. Ruination procs and infernal bolt procs can make setting up a tyrant so much smoother.

the real best is dracthyr. wings are the best quality of life. not dieing to knocks offs/fall damage is bis. but really, pick whatever race you want. if you actually look at the numbers on bloodmallet, all races are within 1% of eachother. you can also demonic teleport to mitigate knock offs/fall damage if you have it pre-set up.

Demonology overall damage is fine, but the problem with looking at 8 target sims is that realistically in a 8 target pull, most of the time you have one or two priority mobs that need to die, either cause they are more dangerous or because they are vastly more healthy. What happens when you have tons of specs like ret, demo, destro, sv, etc. is that all mobs might take a lot of dmg, but your 8 target 40 second sim is going to in practice be a 8 target 20 second + 1 target 20 second. If you shifted the specs in the key to lets say something like affliction, spriest, and some other single target priority spec - those 8 targets could all be dead in 25, including the really healthy one. So while it is true that this is a bit of a oversimplification and probably extreme example, afflictions overall is not why its the most played warlock spec in high keys, its because its doing the most dmg to the targets that needs to die to speed up the key, while still doing decent overall dmg. I appreciate you talking about demonology, it's a very fun spec to play for the weekly keys. Would love to hear your thoughts on warlock utility in comparison to the other classes/specs that are providing various buffs/debuffs, dispells, etc. How could would it be if amplify curse made your next curse be slightly enhanced but instead of being a targeted ability become an aura on you. I feel like those are creative ways to give warlock cool utility which has some practical meaning with the lack of dmg buffs/debuffs, pi, poisoncleansing, AG/embrace, bl, short kicks, grips, soothes, and many other things. As it's felt the past years warlock has only ever been meta when it's doing absurd damage. I think affli dps profile has helped this but the lack of anything tangiably important makes me feel like I cant invite a warlock the same way I can't a hunter.

i guess most specs cleave from the highest health mob to the small ones, only, especially if you got specs like ret or arcane, who apply a dmg-window debuff, which obviously needs to go on the highest health mob.

aff only feels good if your tank pulls around your cds and pulls big every other pack, basically never in pugs, in pugs until im finished with sending seed, vile taint etc, the pack is already dead by palas and dks, even on +11

TLDR (in my opinion): demo will do better overall in virtually every dungeon, and has decent prio. Destro has dogshit AoE (apart from NW first pull) but is the best spec in some dungeons like SV due to strong prio and target switching, 2T and execute. Aff is the most balanced overall with strong AoE and strong prio/ST/2T, but the tank needs to chain pull for it to work otherwise you do below tank damage on some pulls. Best spec in the game for last boss Siege. Demo is diabolist. Destro is hellcaller. Aff is soul harvester. This all mostly holds true in lower and higher keys, but demo will be better in low keys generally if you are comfortable with quick tyrant ramps into new packs.

It's funny cause Affliction has a lot of those problems that early DF demo had. Peaks and valleys, when your CD's are up you're god-mode, CD's down - you're utterly useless, not even tank level DPS. And then as you said, the QoL for Affliction is horrid, wonky resource generation, tank chain pulling and making vile taint lose tons of value, etc.. Just fundamentally a poorly designed spec for M+.

I really don't understand what they want to do with aff now that hellcaller is available to destro. The shard generation for shard is bad and you need to spend shard just to use seed and vile taint. Feels really bad. While with destro you basically generate shard for free.

I disagree about Affliction. Affliction Soul Caller is the strongest spec single target in the game. Also if you get into the proc that gives you multiple procs for rapture and soul call soul drain. it becomes powerful. However, for Mythic+ I feel very week cause the AOE Damage is the most important. And this is the what is needed for Mythic + The biggest issue with affliction is the lack of soul shards to rapture with. And if you go with aoe build if you miss anything in your aoe its the dps is way down.

So sad to see Aff is lacking. Seems Demo is strong too often in comparison and ever since WoD I've not liked what they've done with demo. I want MoP demo back. Summoning demons is cool and all but the rotation is unforgiving and stationary. I don't want to spend 8 spells to set up tyrants. I hate this meta of lining up 3-4 CD's with each other to maximize damage.

demonology lacks the rotational quality of life in my opinion. i mean to each their own, but i hate the fast paced rotation of demo. every other cast you change form a builder to a spender, you build 2 shards with one cast, and spend 3 with one cast. so most the time its (build -> build -> spend). its just such a fast wiplash of shard generation and spending that its not very enjoyable to play for me. for other lock specs, you have at least 5 globals to build, then spend. for demonology you spend 2 globals building, its more than double the pace. i wish they would either make you generate shards slower, or double the shard cap for demonology.

Demo is definitely not the best for m+ if you’re pushing keys. It has the worst utility (can’t swap to imp for dispels) worst interrupt (longest cd out of the 3 specs and it also stuns which will keep far casters in place instead of coming to the pack) and bad prio with mostly pad damage, and btw is straight up griefing for dungeons like DB, SoB and NW (hook on 3rd boss can still grip pets) But yea, if you’re just doing weekly 10’s it’s fine you can play whatever, demo is specially good for lower keys where stuff just falls over
