I don't see that there's any need to vilify this family who has been given by the defense and mental health experts something to cling to that might explain this tragedy. They are just a family who want to believe that their loved one wouldn't do such an irrational, selfish thing, so it's easier to think it wasn't really her fault. We see it in family murder cases all the time; they can't do anything about the person who's dead, they just want to salvage what's left -- often, that means they must believe in the innocence of the killer. I'm not saying if it's right or wrong of them, but I can understand why a family who has been told by all these experts that their loved one isn't really evil would want to believe that.

Prosecutor rebuttal was superb. He explained that even if you believe she was delusional , the law for 'insanity' is that you have to connect it to why she would murder her mother. Sydney was perfectly able to join in with socialising with her friends at University without having medication, her dad said he had never seen or heard about her having mental health problems and she was able to make up a story to try to cover up her crime. Prosecutor explained it all perfectly during closing arguments. Everything she did was to buy herself time. She was so afraid of having her mom find out she was "average" in college, and no longer one of the top students like in HS. She was stressing over it for weeks leading up to it, and every lie she told and every move she made, was to buy time. She was officially out of time and had no other way out anymore. Both were premeditated and she knew right from wrong in the moment.

Her family will never "lose" her like they lost her mother. They will be able to visit her and talk to her when the jury finds her guilty, straight guilty. They can love her all they want eventhough she did what she did. That is their prerogative to do so but why couldn't they love her mom more? Especially why can her own mother lover her more. None of us will ever know why they have brushed Brenda Powell aside. This jury won't do that as they will find Sydney Powell guilty-straight guilty because she does not have and didn't at the time she murdered her mom, did not have a serious mental illness. It is comforting that she is stable and doing well out on bail living with her grandmother working on her farm because then she will do fine living in a max prison for potentially the rest of her life. It is unbelievable that this young woman sleeps well at her grandmas knowing that she killed her mother over her own doing of failing in school.
