President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received a warm welcome from President Joko Widodo at the Bogor Presidential Palace to mark his first State Visit to the Republic of Indonesia on September 5, 2022.
The President is accorded with a state welcome ceremony before signing the guest book, participating in the ceremonial tree planting of pohon kayu ulin or iron wood tree, and engaging in a talk with the Indonesian Head of State to discuss the two countries’ active and multi-faceted cooperation on defense, maritime, border, economic and people-to-people cooperation.
The two Presidents also exchanged views on major issues affecting the region and the world, and witnessed the signing of several key agreements in the areas of defense and culture, as well as a comprehensive Plan of Action that will chart the two countries’ bilateral priorities over the next five (5) years.
Thereafter, both Presidents issued a joint press statement before concluding the Presidential Palace engagements with a state banquet hosted by President Widodo in honor of President Marcos Jr.
Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Indonesia has spanned more than 70 years since its establishment on November 24, 1949. Both countries are also founders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) regional bloc.
