Remission is the album that got me into The Mighty MASTODON and when I heard March of the Fire ant's I knew I had to buy the album. That song blew me away. In my opinion it's still one of their Greatest albums ever released. It's fuckin heavy and Awesome! Great video Nick.🤘🍺

Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Same here, man. I heard March of Fire Ants on a Relapse Records sampler and I was immediately hooked. In terms of pure sludge metal albums it's one of my favorites the subgenre has ever offered. I love all their albums though but Remission is still really special to me.

Not that it really matters for the sake of episode, but Tucker is a city right outside the perimeter of Atlanta. Atlanta is an interesting city because the metro area (akin to Chicagoland) is absolutely massive in population and size

Necrotic Nick- I figured you'd enjoy this one. Even got feature a lot of killer Baizley art too. Yeah, outside of being stuck in the nightmarish hellscape that is the Atlanta International Airport I've never been to Atlanta and checked it out. I heard it's a pretty wild town so I might have to check it out at some point.

I’ve been to the airport over 30 times and I still get confused- especially parking

Georgia's had that Sludge-Core scene on lock for the past two decades now, they still have that progressive grimey sound overall
@thrallsofmetal
@thrallsofmetal Жыл бұрын
Necrotic Nick- Even in comparison to Louisiana and North Carolina, Georgia's sludge bands are a bit different. They're a bit more experimental and I'd agree they might be more progressive. I really hope Kylesa come back from their hiatus. I kinda forgot how amazing that band was in particular.

I've only seen one Georgia-based sludge metal band, that band in question being MASTODON. I saw Mastodon in 2013 with Rob Zombie (who headlined), Amon Amarth and Five Finger Death Punch (the latter SUCKED BALLS!) Also, 29:26 Black Tusk put out an album in 2018. The album was called T.C.B.T. (which means "Taking Care of Black Tusk") It is their fifth album and it was the follow-up to their 2016 album, Pillars of Ash and was written and recorded as a tribute to Jonathan Athon, the original bassist, who was killed in a motorcycle accident. Athon was replaced by Corey Barhorst. Barhorst quit in 2020. The only original members that are still in Black Tusk are frontman/guitarist Andrew Fidler and drummer James May. Another thing to know. Jonathan Athon also had a project called Conquer/Divide. Conquer/Divide ENDED as a result of his death and only released ONE ALBUM, which was their self-titled, which didn't come out till after Athon died.

Necrotic Nick- I saw Mastodon in a jar of peanut butter once. Amazing show.

I am definitely going to check out the bands I don't know, added Savagist, Zoroaster, Black Tusk and Royal Thunder to the list of things to look for. Thanks.

FYI, if you weren’t aware, Kylesa’s To Walk a Middle Course is produced by Alex Newport of Fudge Tunnel/Theory of Ruin fame.

Necrotic Nick- I actually wasn't aware of that. Oddly enough I never really read the linear notes when I jammed that. I love Fudge Tunnel but honestly his work in Nailbomb is still some of my favorite stuff he's done.

All new to me. Already hooked on Kylesa- Static Tensions. Tough to even assign a genre to this band. Just great.

Necrotic Nick- I sadly don't own any Jucifer. I've been meaning to get some though so I might just have to keep my eyes out for their albums.

Love this scene, and it was cool to hear about some bands I’ve never listened to like Artimus Pyledriver. That band sounds right up my alley! Cheers Nick 🍻

Necrotic Nick- Same here, man. Mastodon was my gateway into it with Remission and I pretty dove headfirst into what that scene had to offer. I still need to dig around in it more in the future. Yeah, Artimus Pyledriver is almost a combo of Down and Weedeater so I think you'll probably dig it.

Necrotic Nick- Honestly, that's a band I still need to check out so I didn't bring them up. I did bring up Harvey Milk though which think was a big one that got the scene going.

Necrotic Nick- Harvey Milk is definitely one of the OG's of the scene. That band has that strange Melvins vibes down to a tea and Whores is pretty much the sludge metal equivalent of a stick of dynamite. Not everything is for everyone but again I appreciate you at least giving bands a chance and I'm glad you're still finding killer new music on the channel.
