Me playing along to States of Mind by Senser, I break 2 sticks during the process. 1st one breaks at around 1:20, the 2nd one breaks at 4:47. Recorded at my home studio one night, just for fun. Using the same Ludwig Black Beauty snare and Sabian ride cymbal as on the original recording on Stacked Up. Hope you enjoy it, thanks for watching. jm

Every time I scroll on the comments on a Senser vid.. A recurring theme is just how much of a monster you are on the the pots and pans. The intro to this is a great case in point. Snare pattern: Epic. Hats: tasty. Crash: smashtastic. Kick: Stomping. And then fills across the toms on top and we haven't even got going yet. Yet somehow is not overstuffed and overplayed it's all balanced timed to perfection and builds the song. You're a lowkey legend my friend

Thank you ! The beginning of States of Mind was written as a bit of a live warm up to the main song, so our sound engineer and producer Haggis, could get the balance right when playing festivals and we couldn’t soundcheck properly . the band could also warm up a bit before the main song crashes in. We always started the set with it (and eventually the album) Which is why it starts with drums & samples, then bass/percussion , guitars, then vocals. So the beat has all the elements needed for getting a balance on the kit, a few Tom fills, some crashes, some ghosting on the snare etc. cheers

@@johnnysenser That's a really good idea! All the drum mics get some decent action in a very short time. Clever and really works musically too. It must have been amazing to play to such massive, fully engaged crowds

Fantastic drumming Johnny, tight as a ducks ass. Was just listening to Stacked Up on the way in to work this morning. Still sounds soooo good, and reminds me of seeing you all play Glastonbury '95. Happy days :-)

So I heard you play time on The Tube back then. My music was rock and blues at the time, but it worked for me and I bought the CD. Thinking about it, there are only two drummers that I have seen more than one drum cam from - you and Kai Hahto - probably an unlikely combination. Good work keep it coming.

You can play like a acoustic drummer at the same time as being a drum machine. What I find the most difficult is opening and closing the hi hat in the middle of pretty complicated rhythms. I think it is something you either can or can't do? Correct me if I am wrong. For me practice helps stamina but certain things I will never master regardless of the amount of practice. I was able to play drums to a certain level before I ever got behind a kit which sounds weird compared with guitar which I got gradually better. I know that sounds like a lot of bollocks but that's the way it was with me. My favorite drummer ever is Stewart Copeland and I read an interview where he claims to never really practiced so how lucky was he?? Anyway as always its a joy to watch you making it look so easy.

Thanks Frank, I'm a big fan of Copeland too. Used to play along to tapes when I was a teenager. He's got something so original and special, like Dave Lombardo, Keith Moon, John Bonham.....you can tell it's them, a certain attack/sound/style...they're unique and obviously naturals at drumming. I'm still trying to learn after 30 years of playing !! I think it's best to just make up your own way with it, do your best, practice whenever and whatever you can, and not worry about what anyone else is doing. Music is expression and enjoyment after all. cheers. jm

Nice work, dude! EDIT ...Sorry, forgot to say... Say hi to Nick, he won't remember me but I was at school with him - he used to play seriously shredding metal in North Town. He'll know... Are you doing lots of session work? Anyway, the band is great, I just wish you did more touring; although I suppose you're all doctors and lawyers in real life and only play to get into festivals for free!!

Good advice mate. No matter how good you get there is always something that makes you think that you will never be able to do. I remember the first time I saw you lot in the kings head Fulham in 92 and I saw you whenever I could at squat parties and Ozric all nighters and always wanted to play a song with you but with the tripping etc it was never going to happen and until stacked up was released I had to rely on gigs to hear your stuff. Then thank God for youtube!! Problem solved!! Still have never found a song you used to do and I don't know what it was called. All I remember was the lyrics were about the taj mahal and something about the rhythm of life? What was it called and how do I get hold of it? What I wouldn't do to be back in the early-mid 90's crusty rave scene. Only bad thing was driving back and having to go to work on the Monday!! Tuesday was even worse!!! Those days will never be equalled. Take care mate.

Ah yes, glorious days and nights indeed ! It was a very free time. I think the song you are referring to is called Journey Of Life. There's some demos of it and a live version on a Glastonbury compilation tape somewhere..I may be able to upload the audio..it was nearly our first single but we recorded Eject instead as it was a much more ballsy track !! cheers. jm
