A package is loaded and executed by Db2 automatically when the corresponding program is run. So... kinda.

Hi Themis, When we Bind package we have a collection name like BInd Package(Collection Name) Member(ABCD12) but when we Bind Plan then we have like this Bind Plan(Plan Name) PKLIST(collectionid.*), What is Plan name here and how does it gets identified with package?

Hi Ravi, when executing a db2 module you will mention both the load module name and the plan name. So when you put a list of package under a particular plan it will check the consistency token and it will fetch that one package that matches the token with the load module. As mentioned by David a plan can be compared with syslib. Syslib has load module(Cobol executable). Similar to that plan has package (DB2 executable)

I'm getting authorization error in bind JCL. What does that mean?

The ID that you place in the OWNER option of the bind must be granted permission in DB2 to do all of the SQL that is in the package as well as have privileges to bind packages in the collection you are using. Many times this is given via a secondary authorization id (security group). If you derive your authority from a group then you will need to put the name of the group in the OWNER option. Ex. OWNER(mygroup)

So, what I understood is, Package contains the executable code and Plan is just a list of Packages associated with it. So, it is a Package which actually gets executed and not the Plan. Plan is ‘invoked’ but not ‘executed’.
