Have been silently enjoying your channel for about 6 months. So much learned. There are so many punks out there who would make so much out of so little. No complaints here - keep up the good work

Had a friend who carried a little Falkniven sharpening stone in the woods, along with some tiny brass nails. He had filed a slot on both ends of the stone, so he could tap in the brass nails on a log (didn't have to be an end piece) Then he'd just slide the stone between both nails and go to work. He told me that he learned this from a Ray Mears episode

Grand Dad showed me how to sharpen an ax/hatchet by laying the stone down on a damp rag. Doesn't slip, and you can remove it fast to dip it in water and rub it on your pants leg to clean it. When I got older, I just grasp the stone in my hand for sharpening it. That was about 70 years ago, when they had GOOD Steel...! (I learned to careful, as that old Solingen Steel gets mighty sharp!) Lol...

From your experience (if you’ve experimented with it) is the finer side of a puck like that or a lansky suitable for use on a knife? As in it won’t eat away at the metal as much as the “knife” stones like you were holding at the very beginning of the video?
@escapetherace19432 жыл бұрын
The way I do it is by nailing down wood that holds your sharpening stone/puck, so the nails don't touch it and risk shattering the stone and while they are out of the way
@JoeXTheXJuggalo12 жыл бұрын
I've dried both and both works pretty good. I'm more of a using my hands and eyes. Question though. What kind of all purpose outdoor knife would you recommend for someone on a budget? One that's reliable that would get the job without spending too much but not cheap where it won't last too long.

Dear sir, I was a stone cutter for years. I cut granite and marble for a bit in life. In my opinion. The best stone for sharpening any blade is granite. you can get granite pieces free at or around a granite fabrication place. granite gets to the fabricators with a polished side a diamond cut side a rough cut side and a raw side. I believe its the best stone to sharpen all blades

So,do you know about wet stones? The powder from the stone is not good. Just dipping it in some water works well or spit. Good info. 👍
@danrundell36152 жыл бұрын
Not to nit pick but it's a whet stone...whet is ancient way to say sharpen...the confusion comes from the fact that a sharpening stone should be lubricated to work properly and most common substance is water or spit but honing oil works best jmho...cheers!
@erichjalmarson64292 жыл бұрын
@@danrundell3615 the liquid that is put on a stone for sharpening, be it water, spit or oil is to clear the metal particles away so it dose not get plugged up and continues to cut. If you use water never put oil on that stone and the other way around as well. I like the diamond stones best (just personal preference) I have one that is 300 grit on one side and 1000 on the other. I use water for the lube on it and dry it we’ll have every use.

Social Media involves the entire country and parts of other countries. Meaning culture clashes. I think morals and ethics are important, but so is acceptance of others and their way. You do have the freedom to isolate yourself from the world, but the world and the problems that will always exist is part of everyone's life. You heard of: "You can run, but you can't hide." You may have also heard: "To each their own." Or "Live and let live." For you to police others with an option of cleaning up your mouth or else it is wrong; is also wrong. Allow others to be who or what they are. Everyone has something to offer. You are here for other reasons than to police people for language. I am not saying you are wrong to "HATE" foul language. I hate the word police. So am I wrong for suggesting you may be wrong? I respect your choice. I would love it if you could do likewise. Thank you for your input. Have a nice day!
