Joshua Zirkzee, 23, to Manchester United makes no sense at all. Zirkzee only scored 11 goals in 34 games last season (in the previous season he scored just 2 goals in 19 games) United need a prolific goal scorer and Jonathon David, 24, scored nearly double what Zirkzee scored last season, he bagged 19 goals in 34 games last season (in the previous season he scored more, 34 goals). Signing Jonathon David makes a lot more sense than signing Zirkzee.

But he's a Champions League level player imo, and United are not in the Champions League, and won't challenge for it anytime soon (again just my opinion). Not saying there aren't better options out there to help with goalscoring, just that you'd be looking at players that are either potentially past their best (mistake I think) or quite raw, for the transfer budget United have this season and the position they are in / have been in the last decade.

What I will say, is that United have a significant problem in the primary goalscoring positions. Last years goal difference was the worst this century, and I will remind Utd fans that in 1999 they had four strikers used in rotation. Oli, Teddy, Yorkie and Cole all had some time on the bench and typically did well from it (Ollie scored four goals against Forest, Teddy scored from the bench in the FA Cup Final, Cole scored in the final league game and Yorkie ended the season as the top goal scorer). Zirkzee, if he is signed, should be one of at least another two (good quality) strikers we need.

Rashford had a poor season but still is someone who has usually contributed assists and goals from the left. Finally not having a single left back last season affected us massively in our build up. I mean… we need 2 strikers. Zirkzee is different, in that he’s going down deep and participate in the buildup. We’ve a lot of wingers that don’t create anything, so having a 9 that is more supportive, makes a lot of sense. It also gives a lot of tactical diversity and depth, because Højlund is more of a Targetman. He’s not massively expensive. Strikers usually are. I like it. If he was to be our main nr. 9 I would, but as a 2nd fiddle and he can challenge Rasmus, which we want. Overall a fine transfer. Not massive, but fine.

I think him and hoijlund could link up brilliantly once they gets used to each other. Zirkzee as the false 9 with Hoijlund on the left. He regularly moves out to the left anyway so he would work out there, starting wide to bring the width then moving inside ready for the link up with zirkzee, and he can't do any worse out there than Rashford.

Spot on Dave. I had a look a week ago at Zirkzee, and you completely agree with me!! He will be great paired with Hojland and serving the ball to Hojland. They could end up a dynamic pair, Yorke and Cole. I fear if we sign Olise he won't feed Hojland, and Ivan Toney scores most of his goals in the 6yd box. We don't feed the 6yd box. So Zirkzee at the price is the perfect signing. I'll be excited if we get him.

As a backup striker Zirkzee makes a lot of sense and he's not too expensive. Rasmus works very hard and needs to be subbed in many games but if needed they could be a good attacking pair and I like that a lot more than "the Mctominay plan B" which only worked too few games and also McTominay isn't very good on the ball. However, Zirkzee like Rasmus will need to improve his game in some areas and they will for sure with Nistelrooy as a new United coach. United should buy him and it also looks very likely at the moment.

Rashford did so well playing alongside Weghorst because the Dutchman would drop deep to hold up play and link up, dragging defenders with him and leaving space in behind, so I think Rashford in particular *could* benefit a lot from Zirkzee. I am imagining a 4-3-3 Diamond could be a potential formation if not for the fact that it excludes our top wingers. It could be an optional formation where we want to play our two strikers together and stay more compact by playing four cms. Great Video Dave. For me, I feel Zirkzee is a moderated risk with 35M price tag which is not interesting and is kinda pushed down the throat under the guise of INEOS's exciting structure and current happy scenario. Imo he looks very similar to Joao Felix in terms of his play but then Felix starts for Portugal. I'd rather opt for loaning Felix than Zirkzee until we find a right replacement. Reason being Zirkzee's stats or pedigree even as creative striker isn't proven at a competitive stage / against quality opponents compared to Felix who can also play on wings. Rather than taking a risk of getting stuck with another failed signing I would target proven quality. Our transfer strategy has to revolve around challenging 1st team players. Felix would threaten Rasmus as well as any of our forwards even though it would be for just one season. If Felix benches Rasmus or Rashford on a week in week out basis even for one season that sends out a strong message to the squad that the bar has been raised under new regime. We might spend 10 Mil on Felix for one season but we will get a top quality footballer whereas if the Zirkzee signing fails we will not get any value in return for the 35 Mil + wages for 2-3 years (assuming we would need that much time to offload him) plus the mediocrity in quality we might introduce again. This ain't Dan James cheap deal as well where we would gain profit.

Nothing comes first, getting another striker is as important as other positions. I like Hojlund and there's room for improvement, but I reiterate, he can't be our only striker next season. It's very risky. Performance-wise and fatigue. We need competition.

A midfielder should come in first and foremost, followed by a centre-half and left back. In my opinion, sorting out the fragility of the midfield would go a long way in getting the best out of the creative players we have, and in turn, Hojlund.

I don't know about later, but right now, they're not offloading players that should be offloaded to reduce those wages. Fingers crossed. I don't want to believe that excuse anymore about limited budget. The way we need defenders and midfielders, it's also same way we need a striker to be honest, Hojlund can't be the only striker in all competitions next season. And we shouldn't mention Rashford, because he also clearly said he's not suited in that role. So all these makeshifts, we should stop it next season and use the ones who are reliable in those roles, instead of complaining again and waiting for the next transfer window again.

I don't think they're "bad" decisions per say. I think its just the striker in him that still wants to score. Its a good thing and should be harnessed. Having Rudd in the training ground aint bad either 😅. Isnt that why you all so harsh on Havertz and Jesus? The lack of hunger for goals?
