I'm a clueless 58 year old yank who, until about a year ago, thought Quo was only known for Matchstick Men. Needless to say, I've found out that's what I get for thinkin. The first time in my life that I ever heard *anything* by them (with the exception of Matchstick Men), was when I checked out their reunion tour at Wembley, in 2013. I was what you folks say across the pond say...gobsmacked. Since then, I've tried my damnedest to catch up, lol. To say that I'm highly envious of you that grew up with them, is a gross understatement. RIP, Reg and rock on, Nuff, Spud and Frame. Thanks isn't enough :-)

Yes, that is correct Duncan. First World War the Americans came in very late April 6th 1917. Germany sank many American merchant ships around the British Isles which prompted the American entry into the war In early April 1917, with the toll in sunken U.S. merchant ships and civilian casualties rising, Wilson asked Congress for “a war to end all wars” that would “make the world safe for democracy.” on April 6, 1917, Congress thus voted to declare war on Germany, joining the bloody battle-then optimistically called the “Great War. Of course, if not for the attack on Pearl Harbour, 7th December 1941, the USA would've tried to avoid helping the Allies in World War Two. The Soviet Army were in Berlin 3 weeks before the USA and British Forces. There's nothing altruistic about their entry into either World War, only self-interest. The same with Korea and Vietnam and The Bay of Pigs in Cuba.

Carl Davis, I have been a massive Quo fan since I first heard Down The Dustpipe in 1969 as a 9 year old. Saw them in Sydney at the Horden Pavilion in Sydney Australia for the first time in 1975. I'm very serious when I say that this song and this version should be taught in all schools' music classes. There are a lot of recent bands who've plagiarised the 50 plus Riffs in this performance, created by 2 of the best Guitarists in Rock history. Do I love The QUO? WTF do you think? Even without Spud and Nuff they've produced some very good quality Rock. Quid Pro Quo is a thumping awesome Rock album. I love it. LET'S ROCK!!! Bula Quo is so diverse with Ska n Reggae, Jungle and great Rock songs. In Search of the 4th Chord is brilliant and oustanding!! Heavy Traffic is 11 out of 10. CREEPIN' UP ON YOU!! I recently played both UNDER THE INFLUENCE and PARTY AIN'T OVER YET and they are very good musically and lyrically. Anybody ( critics )who says that QUO's music is all ' the same ' are talking thru their hat. BLESSED ARE THE MEEK is one thing Frame and myself can agree on. It is one of my fave songs to sing. We all know that Frame loves Country music and the aforementioned is an example of that genre executed beautifully. My fave member is ALAN LANCASTER. I've had a few vey cool experiences with Alan at gigs in Australia. Go The QUO!!!

A great track the original only quo the mighty frantic four
@timothy69426 жыл бұрын
This was a great Status Quo era, no medley crap, songs treated with respect and played from start to finish with ripping and sometimes ad-libbed guitar solos. However I do feel that possibly what led to frantic four demise was their live set. They found a live set that worked and never changed it. Sometimes "if it aint broke dont fix it" doesn't work. You need to keep a fresh and different live set and give all compositions dignity and respect. As a result, they have some absolute gems from their early days which have never made the stage. They certainly ran compositions like Caroline and ROLD into the ground. Have they really ever given ROLD the respect and dignity it deserves on stage? I do think if they put effort into keeping their live set fresh and different, it would have made things more interesting for them and they would lasted, perhaps, into the '90s or beyond?

Francis Rossi being a controlling dictator is the main reason for Spud and Nuff leaving the band. Rossi's cocaine addiction had an adverse affect on the band too. A terrible song called " Marguerita Time " was another major reason for Alan leaving the band. There was money being syphoned away from the band members, that's another good reason to walk away. There's a few more reasons.............

I prefer the old stuff too but let people be who they want to be and do what they want to do we all evolve in different ways. Play the old stuff

This was my 3rd Quo record I bought, and my 3rd record overall, as a 9yr old back in 1982. I doubt that I have to explain further, but this record raped and penetrated my brain. From that moment on I wanted to become a long-haired 'freak', and from there straight to Heavy Metal.

Status Quo at their very best, before they lost AC and AL, then the Plinky Plinky took over and all DOWN DOWN hill from there.

During their 'transition' period from their psychedelic pop of the 60's, they had two hit songs in 1970. Those songs were "In My Chair" and " Down the Dustpipe" During 1970 & 1971 QUO produced 2 of their best albums. They were "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon" & "Dog of Two Head" Those two albums managed to sell in some European countries & Scandinavia which kept the Band afloat financially until they exploded with "Piledriver" in December 1972. For the next 10 years QUO were the best Rock Band in the Universe. Sadly Francis Rossi's Cocaine addiction saw his behaviour cause an acrimonious division within the Band of Brothers. After 20 years in the Band, John 'Spud' Coghlan left QUO, he was replaced by Pete Kircher whose Drum Kit sounded very inadequate with hollow sounding Toms. Alan 'Nuff' Lancaster desperately hung on to the Band he formed and created in 1962. Lancaster was very embarrassed by the direction Rossi was taking his Band. Their "1982" album & "Back to Back" album in 1983 only had a couple of decent Rock songs on each. When Alan left the Band that should've been the end of the road. When the court case handed the name "Status Quo" in favour of Francis Rossi & Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster said it was "like having one of your children abducted and abused" Alan told Francis not to come within arms length of him. The demise of THE GREATEST & BEST ROCK BAND of all time is probably the saddest story in music history. I read an article by a music critic who called Francis Rossi "THE ANTI-QUO" After Alan & John left QUO, the music deteriorated atrociously. 1991's "Rock 'til you Drop" brought some respectability to their name. It wouldn't be until 2002's "Heavy Traffic" that another good album would wear the name of Status Quo. From then onwards they produced some very good Rock albums. I mean extremely good albums. RIP - Alan "Nuff" Lancaster RIP - Rick "Reg" Parfitt

Saw Quo live in Gloucester, UK, December '91. Not the classic line-up but still a great gig. Only really went as a bandmate who was a massive Quo fan was going and it was only about a fiver to get in. Queued up from about 3.30pm so we were right at the front, leaning on the rail, fist in the air and headbanging as appropriate - I had long hair then so it looked like I was actually headbanging, not just having a fit like it would if I was doing it now with my shaved head! Don't remember much else about it apart from the curtain got stuck at the start and didn't come down properly straight away and the programs were about 12 quid so I didn't buy one!
