Documentary about Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg. He was an officer of the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War and one of the central figures of the military resistance against National Socialism in Germany.
He was mainly responsible for the assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler on 20 July 1944. The attack failed. Stauffenberg was executed on 21.07 1944 in Berlin.

Adolf Hitler survived the attempt with minor injury. After that he had a meeting with the Duce, Benito Mussolini. In the night of the attempt about 22:30, Stauffenberg and his conspirators were arrested by a group of supporters of the Nazi regime including Otto Ernst Remer. At the same night, Generaloberst Fromm gave the command to execute Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg, Werner von Haeften, Albrecht Ritter Mertz von Quirnheim and Friedrich Olbricht. According to rumors Stauffenbergs last words were: “Long live the holy Germany” Other sources are telling that he said: “Long live the secret Germany”. The next day the dead bodies of the executed officers were buried in their uniforms with their military decorations. They were buried in the churchyard of St.Matthäus church in Berlin. Their ashes were scattered on the septic drain fields of Berlin.

Stauffenberg was "an ardent patriot, a passionate German nationalist" and sympathized at first with the nationalist and revisionist aspects of National Socialism before he realized the criminal nature of the Nazi regime. He was also aware of the hopelessness of the overall military situation of the Armed Forces.
He was born in the Stauffenberg Castle in Jettingen in Swabia (at this time Bavaria).
His parents were: Alfred Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (1860--1936) und Caroline, (1875-1957). He got married to Nina Freiin von Lerchenfeld on 26. September 1933 and had 5 children: Berthold, Heimeran, Franz-Ludwig, Valerie und Konstanze.
