Method Man has said that he wrote the song when he was a teenager, before he was called Method Man. In fact, the nickname “Method Man” cam from the song, and eventually stuck… so people assume the song is named after him, but in fact it’s the other way around! An underrated aspect of RZA’s genius is the marketing savvy. Think of all the constant chanting WU TANG that is so hype, and how on multiple tracks they do callouts of all the members. RZA knew that shit would stick. He also knew that Method Man was the obvious first solo star from the group and giving him his own feature single and MV would be lit. And the fact that the bars are laced with obvious pop culture references and literal nursery school rhymes - catchy AF! You have no idea how popular this shit was in 1993. Me and all my bros have had shit shit memorized for 30+ years. Although it must be said - by listening to the single and not the album track, you missed out on the greatness that is TORTURE 😂 when you know you’ll know 😂😂
