Wow mate! All that detail in the Annie model. I got the plans from you 6 months ago and have just finished building her as per the plans. I was going to put her in the water for the first time today but the wind is just a bit strong, tomorrow we are expecting 6kns so can't wait. I will be getting more plans from you soon.😊

My grandpa and I both love boats and sailing, but I live in a landlocked state and my grandparents moved here to be closer to family. He really misses sailing and dreams about it often. I think one of your boats will be the perfect project for me to do with him. They look beautiful and I cant stop watching the videos of them sailing. Great job!

Gary just picked up 3 of your plans... Thanks for your quick response to my questions regarding rounding out hulls. Well laid out plans. You have captured their beauty just as they are and as you say here, which I think is inspiring, that one can add a little of their own vision to the design as well. If I get a chance to build even one Ill be very happy. Thanks for sharing all the how-to videos for everyone, Stay safe so you can share more time with us and new designs, please!!

Great insight, Gary! And now a whole lot more of us have seen those amazing interiors. I purchased the Annie and Irene set last night as well, and will tuck those away for when Flyer is finished. (Might build the little dory to put on Flyer's deck, though.) Keep up the great work!

Hi Gary. Another great vidio. I have always wanted to put an iterior in one of my models and actualy thought about doing it in my Annie build. Hi I'm working on an old sailing boat and just wondering if you have a video on how to set up the slider sail system
@jessemiles35383 жыл бұрын
Love seeing your boats, it always makes me happy! I did want to ask though, have you ever considered building a boat with square sails? I know it would be harder to sail, but it would be pretty cool to build a man-o-war with scale cannons and everything. Or, maybe there's a warship out there with triangular sails that I'm simply unaware of. What are your thoughts on it?
@sailtails27753 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jesse, Some other folks have tackled square riggers, my simple self says "leave it to them".
@jessemiles35383 жыл бұрын
Haha, fair enough! I'll have to do some more digging to see if anyone has done a video anywhere near as detailed as one of yours, and if not, maybe I'll be the first!

Hello! Greetings from Argentina! I want to construct my first rc sailboat, a very simple one, but I don't really understand how does work the system that moves the sails, where can I read about it?, and where I can found boat planes, thanks you!
@fuzzysphere3 жыл бұрын
What a great and inspiring video! Love the bearospace name! My guess is you're an aeronautical engineer, so I gotta ask: have you ever thought of adding roughness to the leading edge of the sails as they do in wind tunnel testing of small models?
@sailtails27753 жыл бұрын
I have not. Here's the skinny. Bearospace was founded by my son who has a knack for airplane design. I am a retired boat builder with a fondness for traditional sailing craft. My son provided a page of his website to offer my model sailboat designs. www.bearospaceindustries.com/boats2.html
@scooterdon83653 жыл бұрын
Very Nice Gary Do your plans include RC rigging information? Do you recommend a radio and servo set with your plans?
@sailtails27753 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scooter Don for asking. The plans do cover RC control system layout and servo recommendations. Early on, I recommended a radio which I used, but that radio was discontinued by its maker. Happily, most any 2.4 ghz airplane type radio will serve for these boats. Todays radio options offer more features at lower cost than the radios of 5 years ago.

Beautiful sailboats indeed. I am interested in adding one of your models to my already growing fleet but neither have the time nor the space to build one. Do you have any of your models for sale? I understand you live in Ensenada, I do too reside in Mexico and can drive there to pick it up. Great work sir!

Very nice! I have some of your plans and I'd like to make one. Is 'waterproof' plywood mandatory or would plain plywood do?
@sailtails27753 жыл бұрын
As I understand it, all plywood these days is made with waterproof glue, however any plywood still needs protection from water intrusion. A good paint job will give the needed protection. I suggest first sealing the plywood, preferably with penetrating epoxy, then priming and painting with brushed on oil based enamels.

Hi , do you sell your rc sailboat ? I like to buy one , thank you
@robertrussellmd3 жыл бұрын
Gary, do I understand correctly that your first Irene with the interior details sails with rudder control with fixed, uncontrolled sheets? If so, how does that work out?
@sailtails27753 жыл бұрын
Yes Robert, that is so. It actually works out surprisingly well. I adjust the sheets so that the sails are sheeted in, but not too close in. Experiment to find a "happy" spot and she will be able to reach, run, and make her way (quite well) to windward. That said, I encourage builders to install a sail control system because it does provide the avid sailor "Skipper" with hands on (fun) involvement and the ability to trim for best performance.
@robertrussellmd3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gary, I am building a couple of Dumas Ace Sloops. The are designed as free sailers. Your experience encourages me to try them as rudder only. They are only 16 inches at the waterline so they don't have much displacement. Rudder only will simplicate and add considerable lightness.
@irandar2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary. As you may remember I made an 80% Irene. This linear reduction gives 50% on the displacement and therefore half the weight. The scaling was done by simply printing out 80% size from the original plans. I had to do a bit of fiddling on the control because of the space. Here are 2 youtubes of mine kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmHRhGqPdtSmedU on the building kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXTbd2xsh5d8mqM and sailing of Irene. I have printed out an 80% Annie and have all the materials but not worked on for 2 years. I enjoy rewatching your videos. I hope you are in good health and that all is well at Bearospace. All the best, Irving
@sailtails27752 жыл бұрын

@sailtails27754 жыл бұрын
Give it a try, sailing is easily learned by doing, and safe. You are not likely to get hurt like you could if you were operating heavy equipment ! (tongue in cheek)

Where do you get the ballast "Bulb" from or do you
@sailtails27754 жыл бұрын
Thanks James for asking. The lead ballast bulb is DIY. Emma, Annie & Flyer plans describe making a wooden mold and casting the bulb right onto the aluminum fin.

Could Annie be build as a real sailboat let's say 35 to 45 ft
@sailtails27754 жыл бұрын
Certainly a full size boat resembling 'Annie' is feasible, but boats do not simply scale up (or down) well, so a proper design process at the intended size would be the key to success. Gotta add, I do think an 'Annie' type could be a fantastic cruising boat. (dream time anybody?)
