With the blistering summer heat combined with long hours of sunlight hitting my new solar roof, it just made sense to get working a/c!
My old central a/c system was not operational, instead of replacing it with another central a/c system, we decided to get the best and most efficient system in the air conditioning world. DUCTLESS MINI SPLIT!
The video does not do it justice, but trust me, it feels great.
Enjoy the video!

I don't know why these are not the standard a/c units in the states like they are in other countries. They just make sense, especially since we have huge houses here in the States. Why do we need to cool/heat every single room when we spend most of our time in certain rooms. Thanks for the comment!

I saw that you were very “careful” which word you used to describe your family’s a/c usage 😂 In all seriousness you have a great system. I recently had a dual zone 24k Mitsubishi ductless mini split heat pump installed in my home. I live in New England where we get hot summers and cold winters. It’s too early for me to judge energy savings but I’m really loving how consistently comfortable my place is and I love how quiet they are compared to using window a/c’s. I feel like these are really gaining a lot of popularity in the US too.

If you have a basement or attic most of the lines can be hidden until they get close to the indoor heads. You still want the condensate drain to be exposed on the outside. If you're willing to open up walls it can be completely hidden.

Mitsubishi is justttt awesome guys trust me I’m using “Mitsubishi Heavy Industrial” Hi wall AC of 2.2 Tr or 27k btu for a 450 sq feet hall in India which is a tropical country and I see temps getting as high as 120° F and even high with humidity touching 80% in rooms at top floors but this “Mitsubishi Heavy industries” is one of the AC which can chill down my hall but it drinks electricity like crazy this single unit takes around 3000 watts but as the name suggest it’s a Heavy Duty machine “Mitsubishi heavy industries” mainly designed for commercial spaces there are two subsidiaries “Mitsubishi electric” & “Mitsubishi H industries” the ME units are also available here and they have smaller units like 1.9 ton for a single sone and much more energy efficient ones. Do check out MHI if it’s available in your region you’ll be stunned by its capabilities.

Looks like a good option for people who have good condition ductwork already. This type is system is inconsistent especially if the air is traveling far from the a/c unit and over the duration of the travel (in the attic, the hottest part of the house) that air looses its coolness by the time it hits its destination. This is why central air cools different rooms at different temperatures. But the main benefit from a split air system like the one I've shown is the ability to only cool/heat rooms that you're occupying. No reason to cool/heat empty rooms. Also cooling and heating all in one unit, no furnace required!

I really hate my current ducted system and not to mention all the ductwork taking up space and headroom in my basement. May I ask what is the model number you have on the condenser and is this available as a four pack like you have or did you have to purchase extra units? Thanks!

Great Vid compared to most of the others. Sorry if I missed it... But two questions. What was the total cost with installation on the 1-Condenser and 3-Zone? Just wondering because of the cost of the line extensions. The other question is how good is the cooling if all 3 units are set at lower temps in the summer? I've heard mixed reviews on getting multi-zone units. Thanks in advance!!!

@DarwinChaug
@DarwinChaug 4 жыл бұрын
definitely understand the concern, my particular house has ALOT of wiring (especially near the solar inverters with the electrical as well as internet/old phone cables are all there). Plus I have a guest house which requires some wiring to be put through. The a/c system itself has all the lines/wires covered under the metal cover and actually is hard to notice (especially if you paint to match the house color). Definitely a good idea to put the actual condenser in an area that is away from guests because it'll blow out hot air (but is extremely quiet compared to a regular central a/c system). Some people build boxes around it to hide it and it looks pretty great.

If you have the ability and time to do that then that's possible. It was very daunting to install. A lot of a/c lines run around the outside of the house and thru the attic. Plus the utility company rebate for me actually applies immediately when I purchase through a contractor. Just too many things for me to juggle, especially with the permitting and city/ HERS(home energy rating system program) approvals. Plus even if installed yourself, you'll need a qualified a/c tech to charge the system to the correct coolant levels. Something I don't feel comfortable doing. My contractors took 3 days to install with 3-4 people on the job each day, would take too long for me to figure it out and do on my own.

Just wondering how your ductless system performs, electricity usage, etc. in the winter for heating. How about a video for heating? Separately, I'm in Westminster, CA (OC) and plan to buy a Tesla solar roof large enough to make my SCE and SoCalGas bills close to zero. But the $71K for a 10.2 KW system and 2 powerwalls seem a bit above my budget for now. Retired. So, taxes are low and won't be able to use much of the $14K fed credits. Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated.
@DarwinChaug
@DarwinChaug 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yea I should do an update for heating. In short it works excellent, I've been working at home so I've been using the heat almost daily and I just heat my office instead of the whole house and I save so much energy by doing that. If I were you, I wouldn't get powerwalls, we get Net energy metering in CA and especially with SCE, your extra energy generated is stored on the grid as a credit. Fed credit should be able to be carried forward to future tax years if you're unable to claim all of it (check with CPA). And of course use my referral code for an additional $100 off your order when placing your order!
@LTran-ik1gj
@LTran-ik1gj 3 жыл бұрын
Does SCE credit the kwh or the price. Do you bank the kw? I understand we all must go to time of use TOU rate. Just don't like the idea of selling kw to SCE for $0.15 and buy back at $0.45 btw 4PM and 9PM.
@DarwinChaug
@DarwinChaug 3 жыл бұрын
@@LTran-ik1gj you bank the price of when the power was generated. The only downfall is if you're using HUGE amounts of energy in those 5 hours. You can simply offset that by moving your major appliance usages/car charging to after 9pm. Like I said in my powerwall video (one of my more recent videos) it would take me 40 years to break even with a powerwall. Totally not worth it. Tesla and almost every company is ramping up production of batteries, I. can almost guarantee home storage batteries will get cheap very soon. No rush for the powerwall unless you're experiencing power outages. Just my opinion.

@DarwinChaug
@DarwinChaug 4 жыл бұрын
I hope you're enjoying the system as much as I am! It's been a game changer! I haven't seen the need for WiFi connectivity especially with the remote functionality and the system works very quickly to cool/heat a space. Are you trying to automate the on/off functions? The Remote does lack automation features, it lets you set auto start/stop but only good for 1 time. Then has to be set again for the next time you want it on/off. The Mitsubishi Kumo Cloud WiFi connectivity seems like a great feature, but for now at $150 per wall mounted unit, i don't see the cost benefit since I'm very happy with just turning on the system with remote. Another thing is that these systems are so efficient, I just keep it running all through the night and wake up in comfort :) - at least for the room that I'm currently in.
@TikoKoreen
@TikoKoreen 4 жыл бұрын
@@DarwinChaug The 1 time setting really gets me and sad that they wouldn't just allow for a schedule to be set. We have a large 18k unit for our main living area and would love not to set it EVERY night to not dip below 45 degrees at night during the winter... So I'll check out the Kumo cloud, thanks! With running it all night long be careful. Keep in mind both heat pump and AC remove moisture from the air and can put you in a dehydration state pretty quickly if you're running long term. We have to put a humidifier in each room now.

Hi Darwin, by comparison, if you put your hand right up to the handler's vent, is your Mitsubishi ac just as cold as your ex-central system?
@DarwinChaug
@DarwinChaug 3 жыл бұрын
I’m assuming you’re referring to the compressor/heat pump fan? When the air conditioning (cold) is on, the fan expels hot air. When the heat is on, it expels our cold air. The heat pump transfers the desired heat or cold into the rooms. The confessor doesn’t now move air though, the air is circulated within each room and not drawn in from the exterior.

Did you consider the daikin fit? With an air handler to use your existing ductwork?
@DarwinChaug
@DarwinChaug 3 жыл бұрын
that should work if you want to use existing ductwork and need an a/c replacement. But the main benefits of a ductless a/c is individual zones and being able to cool/heat a room without needing to cool/heat the whole house. Having the cold/heat generated at the location where you need it, without having that air travel long distances is where the efficiency is gained. I looked into Daikin but have heard too many good things about Mitsubishi's reliability. Ductless was specifically the way I wanted to go. Love my choice to get rid of the ductwork and just rely on the ductless system now.

@DarwinChaug
@DarwinChaug 4 жыл бұрын
Exact wattage will depend on how many units you run and at what level. One of the benefits of the minisplit system is that the power used can be adjusted whereas a central a/c system either has it on or off, thus using more power. Different rooms will be sized with different BTU systems, which will determine your energy usage. I'm sure your installer can give you the details based on what you decide to install. If you are doing a swap, i'm sure the new system can easily use your old a/c system wiring and save you some $. It will definitely draw way less power, that's for sure.

Nice review and the price wasn't to bad either. 🤔 Heat pumps&ductless are actually one of the fastest growing segments in hvac. Wanted to do a multi zone for my own house here in Georgia. But unfortunately the local installers are poorly trained. have next to no motivation to do an installation. And the prices vs sticking with a 16seer dual fuel heat pump. We're about 30-50% more up front. 😒
@DarwinChaug
@DarwinChaug 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. From me getting quotes SO much of the price is based on the installer. I had an installer really push going with the traditional central ac/furnace ducted unit and when I asked about ductless, they undersold it and said it wasn't that great. I could tell they simply didn't have experience installing it. He came back with a quote for 30k!! I shopped around, i got a quote from a reputable AC company for 18k for fujitsu and eventually I got a quote for under 14k for the Mitsubishi unit that was shown in my video PLUS 0% 48 month financing. Ductless is the way to go, even if you were to finance more of it (Mitsubishi approved financing is great right now), it's worth getting rid of those old ducts and inefficient system of pushing air through the entire house through a hot attic. I would just go down this list and find a great installer in your area (check reviews and call them up): www.mitsubishicomfort.com/get-started/contractors
