Yea no shit he could be a boss in a game. Only it will be a rare weapon in his vault. Only discovered after clues in the game. When the final clue is found is says, “Be vigilant and train hard.” You won’t understand what it means till you go to retrieve the weapon. Maybe in a apocalypse type game. Hey john, I know this is a bit off topic but, I recently watched your video you made with your military buddies. One of them lost a leg and the other lost an arm. And then you tell the story about throwing a human spine! I say that to say, in a world full of macho men, profanity, and broken homes caused by men, you of all people have the right to be prideful and arrogant and you’re not! You’re humble, you have a sense of humor, you lead your family, and most importantly you’re a Godly man but you still like to “party”. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. Every once in a while my buddies and I will get together and go to one of our homes and practice as individuals clearing that structure. While the rest of us are within the home sitting on the ground in a corner or on a piece of furniture just to observe how each one of us does it and come up with any critiques or helpful hints or ideas. Then we move into two man teams and three man teams and just continue the same process while switching up who’s on point. We alternate houses every so often. Once in a while I’ll throw a wrench into the process and have somebody play a victim and practice with a med kit also.

When you look at dry fire tools, check out the Dry Fire Mag made for Glock. Sized for a Glock 17, but works with the other 9 and 40 double stack pistols, just work around the mag length. One of the most overlooked dry fire training exercises is the off hand draw. It's awkward, it's dangerous to do with a live gun, but when you have to do it, you're much better off if you've run through it a few hundred (or thousand) times in a safe environment.

Just the way I do it...NO AMMO, but real gun. SAFE area, (no destruction, no kill, no aim at anything other than target and whats behind). Part of dry fire (for me) is trigger press, so I will clear firearm, look away, take a breath, check again, once all ammo is cleared of the area. You have excellent recommendations. “And that’s pretty fun”! Again, the DAILY practice is most important. Agree with your point of NOT putting hand in front of real barrel...BUT, recognizing that gaining distance requires that hand out front. DEFINITELY a blue gun practice scenario. Practice perfect, practice often!

These are excellent ways to train while just screwing around at home on ur day off. Better than playing video games. Dont get me wrong im not an anti game guy and it actually does help improve coordination and its good for scenario training especially with these new realistic controllers and games. Especially when the recoil patterns are accurate and they use real guns in the game then it can be helpful. But maybe an hour or two max a day is good. For the expressed purpose. Its great for when u cant go to the range during covid but i crave physically doing these things (safely) and paint ball is out of the question. So I try to do these little drills so im not stuck on the xbox all day. And try to focus on my personal fitness. Take my guard dog for some intense walks that always turn into jogs.. These drills of urs are definitely getting incorporated into my routine

Thanks for the cool ideas! For subscribers' info, and maybe even yours, Mr. Lovell, I had seen online that it's okay to manipulate and dry fire a modern striker fired pistol with nothing in the chamber... Well, I asked the manufacturer of mine, Springfield, and they said it's okay occasionally, but for regular practice, it's best to have dummy rounds. I couldn't find any conclusive info on that before contacting them, so just wanted to share!

If you are going to dry fire/practice then doing it in the house is fine but also try it from your car. Many people don't seem to understand the mechanics of drawing your pistol with a safety belt on or a steering wheel in the way. Also if you dry practice enough your muscle memory will kick in and you will find yourself loading or chambering a round without thinking about it.

This reminds me... Need a good time to work on clearing my place too, when family isn't home. Picked up an airsoft for "safer" training a while back and have been meaning to go through and clear the house. It's a small house with a few tight corners and a staircase which could be a nice semi-difficult training ground for pieing and whatnot. Speaking of, hey John; when you've got a super right corner that leads to a staircase, and that staircase isn't open to the downstairs the whole way (meaning as you step down the stairs, anyone down there would see your feet first for a few steps), what would you recommend for clearing? A slower, half way knelt approach or a full commitment rush (obvious smooth pieing as much as you can while going)..?

I may get some flak for this. But my range doesn’t let me draw from a holster. And it has been said that it is important for you to practice with what you are actually using so that you are familiar with it. So I practice drawing from my holster in my house using snap caps. I make sure the gun is not loaded and I make sure to only point it in a safe direction. But that’s my only option for practicing drawing with my actual firearm.

Hey John, if you wouldn't mind, I'd love to see your take on dry fire practice tools. Have you also seen that one video of the Japanese airsoft guy shooting real guns for the first time? I encourage anyone who's skeptical about airsoft to watch him; he manipulates and fires the gun like a pro! Kind of made me think I could definitely get into using airsoft for practice as well! It went to prove that the bridge between airsoft and real gun performance was no as gapped of disconnected as some would have maybe believed.

First- Love this and every other video I've watched so far. Just had one question and in no way is it intended to sharpshoot, just trying to understand. If you dry fire practice with a "rubber dummy" pistol, why not a rubber dummy rifle? I'm guessing because of the optics/sight picture? Really, I'm just a big fan of dancing with the one that brung ya so I'd rather just use my EDC to practice most everything. If we really want to get down to brass tacks, I'm just cheap and am trying to justify why I don't need to buy a rubber gun! Love your mentality and the way you teach! Stay in the fight!

I am a noob when it comes to pistols: So I have some questions. Unlike a lot of people that are zeroing their weapons at 25 yards, my interest is home defense, specifically somebody breaking in, not planing to follow the guy while he runs away, which would put the bad guy somewhere between 5 and 10 yards away from me before I can grab my pistol. as such I zero my red dot at 7 yards and plan to do the same with a combo of laser/light. To properly dry fire with an intruder in mind using any of the laser dry fire solutions and still be accurate I think I need a distance somewhere 15 feet and 30 feet (10 yards most homes are smaller). Should I be using a full size target, a 1/2, 1/4? Obviously smaller makes me better shooter, but I think for peace of mind I need 1/1 or 1/2 depending on available distance from me to target (I dry fire at 15 feet and could at 30 provided I can see the small circle or X). Would you go for smaller target for extra accuracy or full, 1/2 size of target for peace of mind that under hectic situation you can still deliver center mass or head shot quickly? What do you think, I like to hear your opinion about preparedness and dry shooting during a break in. Thanks, I do want your opinion if not too much to ask.

But I'm really nervous having my gun holstered near my groin like that but it dose seem the best spot for if I want to sit down or just moving around in any way it's most comfortable. I have wanted to invest in a shoulder holster seems like it would be the most comfortable overall but was told by my local gun shop that they don't like selling them because most of them point behind you and is a big no no for if it discharges out of the blue while holstered. And can hit someone behind you. Thank you for this video very informative.
