I saw the original show and Jackie Gleason knew at some point early on that he was watching a bomb explode and he was in the middle of it. Yet he soldiered through it and did his apology the week after, part of which is here. But what is missing from history is the 12 shows he raconteured (is that a word?) his way into American homes and hearts. A thorough professional in everything he did, this was his solo series, and I am sorry they are lost.

The theme song for One Happy Family has been stuck in my head for almost 60 years now, but I have no other memory of it. The blonde with the nice booty at the beginning of Harrigan and Son was their secretary, played by Georgine Darcy. I don't know why they didn't show her face. Maybe it was a butt double. How does Sy Gomberg get billing over James Whitmore?!?

One of the members of Mitch Miller's Sing Along Gang was Bob McGrath, who was one of the original cast members of "Sesame Street". He's also the father of pop group Sugar Ray's lead singer, Mark McGrath. Much like "CSI" and "NCIS", "77 Sunset Strip" was so successful that Warner Bros. decided to create (or should I say "inflict upon us"?) what were basically clones of it: "Bourbon Street Beat" ("77 Sunset Strip" in New Orleans) and "Surfside 6" ("77 Sunset Strip" in Miami Florida).

This seems to have been a good year for television. Some of these shows were quickly forgotten, but a surprising number of them are still talked about today. The anthology-style “playhouse” series are legendary in TV history. BTW, The Flintstones was definitely in B&W when it first aired. Where did this "Hooray for Hollywood"-esque theme come from? This is the first time I've seen/heard it. I only know the original "Meet The Flintstones" vocal opening theme. If it wasn't for KZbin I'd have never known about the Jackie Gleason apology. I remember the ABC's failed one-airing wonder, "Tune In" (produced by Laugh-In's George Schlatter/Ed Friendly Productions, but not CBS' "You're In The Picture". Back then CBS wasn't really known to put losers in their fall lineup like ABC and NBC were notorious for because they had pretty solid lineups most of the week. ps. as a kid I "got" the Donna Reed 'missed kiss' homage in The Flintstones opening sequence. They led the way for The Simpsons and Family Guy, who in turn gave them mad props a time or two.
@popcultureaddict7336 жыл бұрын
The Flintstones theme used in the video was from the first two prime-time seasons. The more familiar theme started in the third season and is used for all subsequent broadcasts. To the best of my knowledge, ABC was the last major network to switch completely to color broadcasts (not counting possibly PBS' "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood", the last network show broadcast in B&W was probably "American Bandstand"). The Flintstones was taped in color but initially broadcast in B&W, so you are definitely right here. "You're In The Picture" is a notorious failure among TV fans, but not nearly as notorious as "Turn-On" (sorry, it's not "Tune In", but you are definitely right about the "Laugh-In" connection), which was pulled by several of the ABC affiliates' broadcast feeds while it was being aired! You probably are aware that the incomparable Tim Conway was the guest host of that turned-off "Turn-On" episode. I'll bet he has a lot of great jokes about that experience. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn-On OK, so what was the last major network TV program broadcast in SDTV? CBS probably wins that one with "Let's Make a Deal" which went HD in 2014.
