Poor little Cassie Ventura -- this is so horrifying. I'm pretty sure that she was abused like this for a really long time. In a domestic violence relationship, you slowly become conditioned to accept this type of physical abuse. The abuser convinces you that they will hurt your family and friends if you don't do what they say. They convince you that you're not capable of functioning without them and you believe it because they've been making all of the decisions over your life. The only money that you have access to is the money they give you and if you want to go shopping -- you have to go with one of their friends or the wives of one of their friends who work for them. You're constantly being spied upon. You have no friends anymore and you've pushed your family as far away from you as possible to protect them from your abuser. It's not easy to get out of domestic violence situations. The abuser instills so much fear into you that you stay in a constant state of "Fight or Flight" and ultimately you end up not doing anything because of the paralyzing fear of them beating you or going after your family members and hurting them. .
