Niagara Falls, Ontario has a bunch of very mediocre hotels that all feature rather average hotel rooms. But what if you want to go all out and spend an enormous amount just for one room? Well, I did just that! I’m taking a look at the exclusive Presidential Suite at the very top of the Hilton. We’re going to find out if this often greedy town lives up to its name, or if this massive suite is actually worth the money!

They LOCKED the Balcony!?!? If that’s not false advertising, I have no idea what is
@sirrliv

Given the state that the rest of the hotel was in, they might be starting to worry about the balcony straight up falling off the building if people go out on it. Wouldn't be the first time...
@jacksonvanveen800

@@sirrliv I cant exactly remember if it was the Hilton or a different hotel on that street (although I do believe it was the Hilton) but I work in the area at a different hotel and earlier this month a guy threw himself out the window and died. Rumour is it was due to casino losses but ya. I can definitely see them closing easy access to outside because of semi common occurrences like that. Its awful that you would still be paying a balcony premium though and not be allowed to use it. Like at least remove the door and make it a solid panel without a handle

I would love to hear if Hilton reaches out after this, because the state of that room is pretty damn sad and they should be embarrassed. The suites should be perfect. They should be the most up to date styling, everything should work, and the balcony shouldn't be locked. Also, self parking should be included.

The prices at this hotel too. Crazy. I checked a high end hotel in my city (that US celebs have stayed at, and that Tenet actually filmed in) and it cost about USD 1400 (taxes included) for a suite, with breakfast and a proper three course dinner with wine included. A spa visit with 50 min massage included and a tickets for two to the Astrup Fearnley museum. This for two adults in a suite. Oh.. and the suite has a nespresso machine and two functioning balconies. And this in one of the most expensive countries in the world 😅 @@samthecar

I am by no means rich, but pre-pandemic times, when I would go on holiday with my other half, I would always save up for the best hotel and room I could afford. I can't even imagine the disappointment of someone saving up for a special occasion to stay here, and being greeted with this. I think the worst part is actually that it's the best room in the area - knowing that this is as good as it's gonna get for such a magnificent landmark.

Gonna be honest, when this channel first launched I balked at it; I though "Oh great, KZbinr swinging his success around, showing off ultra luxury top dollar experiences that 99% of his viewers will never be able to even dream of having for themselves. The nerve of this guy!" But after seeing these episodes so far I've realized I had it all wrong. Every one of these mega priced hotels, cruises, etc. has been varying degrees of crap, and Jake has been shelling out the big bucks so we don't have to. So thank you, Jake, for taking the hits for the rest of us and showing that top tier vacations aren't nearly all they're cracked up to be.

I also am thankful to have a platform where I can voice my grievances of the hospitality industry. There are so many products out there that I have always been so confused on how they get away with it. I believe so deeply that the consumer should be as informed as possible and never accept what corporations give us. In fairness though, I am very selfishly getting to do what I love, which is traveling and trying new things. But if people care about my opinions and I earn the trust of all of you, then I am incredibly thankful! I'm glad you're enjoying the content and I hope you stay aboard!
@sirrliv
@sirrliv 8 ай бұрын
@@BrightSunTravels Honestly, I think the biggest reason places like the Hilton here can get away with it is because the demographic they cater to don't understand realistic value; they've got so much money to splash out that they actually cannot comprehend what things are and are not worth. "$20 for a bowl of cereal? Is that weird?" Yes, yes it is. But they will never realize that because they have never had to worry about money in their lives. Meanwhile, us down in the proletariat and what little remains of the middle class look at that and choke because we know what we pay for what we need and likewise what we are not willing to pay for said things. That said though, I'm not exactly an anti-Capitalist myself. On the contrary, I think these hospitality chains are doing themselves a severe disservice by charging such absurdly vast sums for inferior service. By either reducing the prices to something more appealing to lower wealth brackets or using their inflated profits on maintenance, staff training, property improvement, etc., I think these companies could easily see their revenues multiply simply by doing better. Then again, in the current business climate of Late Stage Capitalism, short-term gains are all that matter and concepts like "Investing back into business improvement" make shareholders break out in hives. So they just scam all the money they can and walk away when it all tumbles down. Which has basically becomes the theme of your other channel recently, it seems.

Good for you pointing out all the broken things, dysfunctional design aspects, and Hilton just being cheap with things like bedding, toiletries, and the awkward Walmart refrigerator. So many travel reviewers are being comped their stays and hence their reviews are usually 95% focused on the positives. Please keep up the raw honesty and disclosure. Sadly giant hospitality companies like Hilton are focused on profits and their share price above all else and it shows. The only winners are the obscenely compensated senior management and other significant shareholders. Also sad is the giants have bought up a lot of the wonderful independent boutique high end hotels and largely ruined them forcing them into their corporate mold.

*DEFINITELY NOT TOO NITPICKY* Every single “Presidential Suite” I’ve stayed in at Hilton properties have the same issues. Stuff that’s broken, worn down, and dirty. The last time I had this happen, we canceled the rest of our stay as the staff wasn’t willing to do anything to fix any issues. As we were leaving we walked by one of their other “lesser suites” and it was FAR NICER than their “Presidential Suite” smaller, but everything in the smaller suite was at least 5 years newer, the carpets werent worn out, and it was absolutely *spotless*. This is definitely a problem with the brand as a whole. A completely inexplicable one IMHO.

Yes! Like if you're going to NYC for anything, tack on an extra day to Buffalo and drive over to spend exactly one day at the falls. It's incredible, and taking one of the boat rides was a highlight of our year (and totally reasonable at like $20 each). It's a stunning sight that makes for a great day with a boat ride and afternoon stroll along the boardwalk, capped by fireworks in the evening. More than one day would be a stretch, and don't expect anything from the town.

We booked a stay at the Hilton in July 2023 for our anniversary. Booked the falls view room which was $500 + per night. The room smelled so musty and moldy we couldn’t even stay there. Tried to get a different room and they didn’t have any available, so we had to change hotels. They were not going to refund our money. We ended up having to stay at the super 8 motel as no other hotels had any rooms available at such short notice. They charged us for both nights and we didn’t even stay there one night! After many emails and phone calls they finally refunded our money. I would never book to stay at the Hilton there again!!

Wow! We stayed at the other Presidential Suite (similar layout - just on the other side of the floor) back in 2019 and so much of this was true back then. So many things not working or not clean. Balcony (and whole room there in fact) was locked off. And the hotel wasn’t too helpful with offering any fixed, or any Keurig pods. We got it as a day-of paid upgrade, which was fun and fine value. But I’d absolutely not pay for this room. I always wondered if the other suite was similar, not surprised to see that’s the case. Great video though, thanks for sharing! Brought back a few laughs of a fun (but quirky) night.

So, I worked at a Radisson for a few years in the pastry department. Your complementary breakfast consists of pre-made place-and-bake frozen mini-danishes, and it looks like they didn't even bake them properly for how deflated they are, nor did they do anything to finish them (which even at a business-class hotel that was on its way out, we dressed these up with glazed fresh fruit and/or icing drizzles and chopped toasted nuts when we used them in the morning buffet because they're so sad as they are). A box of 120 pieces runs about $80 USD these days so your plate of pastries at most probably cost them about $6.50 USD to produce, including the berries, the muffin liner, and the (very minimal) labor involved.

Seeing that the casinos in Niagara Falls (I worked at both) have their fair share of people losing huge amounts of money, a lot of people become despondent and tend to "unalive" themselves by jumping. The stories I've heard from patrons at both casinos were unbelievable; lives ruined by losing their homes, savings, family even, but of course, they couldn't stop gambling even when they've paid a high price for doing so.

I grew up in Fort Erie and worked at the Sheraton on the Falls or Sheraton Fallsview. You nailed why this room exists. Weddings. If it wasn't for weddings and the Casino this hotel might have to actually try. The problem is that all of the hotels in Niagara Falls are run by rich families whose sole existence is to milk every dollar from you. I worked there in 2008 and helped with a floor renovation. I learned recently from my friend who is still there that that was the last time they did hotel updates to rooms. 2008. Anyone wanting to go to Niagara Falls would be better served to stay outside the small tourist trap area and drive or shuttle in to see the Falls. You also avoid the tourist tax Jake was charged in this video.

As a youngster in the early and mid-1970’s we’d sometimes go to the Falls and stay on the NY side, usually at the same motel. Even then the room was smaller than the small motels we usually went to on most vacations and long weekend trips…that was the only room in which I slept on the couch, not that I minded. But my dad probably paid well under ten bucks. Besides the spectacular falls, part of the charm was just how gaudy and chintzy everything was, though the Canadian side was nicer, and I’ll never forget those stays.

The view was actually better than on the hotel website (and our photos didn’t really capture it either). If it wasn’t for the pandemic, we would definitely have already gone back. I think there was so much to do - don’t miss the Whitewater Gorge and the Spanish Aerocar over the whirlpool, and Niagara on the lake. We skipped Clifton Hill, the Casino and Skylon Tower (though I would have liked to try that). To be honest my wife dragged me but I am a convert, it’s incredible in spite of the best efforts to junk it up.

Jake has a refreshing perspective I think. I've been lower class my whole life and there's a lot of absolute garbage I will overlook while being thankful/appreciative for what I do have. To know what sorts of corners get cut in the hospitality industry is helpful to look for at any price point so that you can be more discerning when it comes to that sort of thing and know when you're justified to lay the pressure on companies when you're being taken advantage of.

I grew up in WNY, only an hour's drive from Niagara Falls. My wife & I actually stayed at the Hilton in NF, Ontario for our honeymoon on "SED" (somebody else's dollar, in that case my sister's). We didn't stay in the presidential suite, but she did get us the honeymoon suite, which had some nicer features like a large jacuzzi tub and a view of the falls. We decided to try Brasa, having never tried a Brazilian steakhouse before. We both thought the food was exceptional, but it did take some getting used to how they served it. I suspect that may have been a big reason for the lower rating. If you're not familiar with a Brazilian steakhouse, you don't order just one cut of meat like at a regular steakhouse. Instead the waiters walk around with various meats that have a sword running through them like a skewer. You're given a card when seated that has a green side and a red side. If the green side is facing up, the waiters will stop and tell you what meat they're carrying. If you want to try it, they'll use the sword to cut you off a piece right there and put it on your plate, and then continue on. If the red side of the card is facing up, they'll just skip your spot. Then there's also a buffet that acts like a traditional buffet. Overall I thought our stay at the Hilton in Niagara Falls was decent enough, though to be fair it was our honeymoon and paying attention to the small details of the room or the food wasn't quite the top of our priorities.

You can fly to Vegas, stay in a high end hotel, all you can eat, get some free comps and have money to gamble. Valet parking is free, they leave a couple bottles of water in your car. The rooms are always up to date & spotless. You didn’t mention Niagara Falls charges a tourist tax on food and hotels. I lived in Niagara and always argued the tax, it’s illegal to charge it and I would show them the newspaper article they did stating they cannot force that bogus charge.

Great video, Jake! That room was ridiculous. I would love to see you team up with the Podcast: The Ride guys one day to do an episode about Niagara Falls in general, or perhaps even the Margaritaville cruise, since one of the hosts is a die-hard Jimmy Buffett fan!

Gotta love the negativity in these reviews. So many other reviewers would try to sweep it under the rug and put on a smile, but here's Jake making a list of what sucks. Far more important than what few positives you might encounter.

Niagara Falls, Ontario seems to have quite a range of hotel experiences, and this one is definitely an eye-opener! 😲 The Hilton suite had potential, but those maintenance and cleanliness issues are a letdown for sure. And the prices? Yikes! 💸 It's so important to get what you pay for, especially for a luxury stay. Kudos to you for keeping it real and sharing these honest experiences! Looking forward to more adventures and reviews. 🌟🌍

The problem iwth Niagara Falls is once you spend 5 minutes looking at the falls going "Wow, that's a lot of water..." you're still in Niagara Falls and it sucks. Although the Butterfly Conservatory nearby is awesome. But, yeah... stay in Toronto and drive over for one day... half day.

Jake - Awesome video - more like this please. I stayed at the Niagra Hilton as well, but not in your room. I got a regular room with a view of the falls. It had a spa bathtub which was cool. I had a full view of the horseshoe falls and the view was amazing. Paid about $200 USD. You are right. The parking is ridiculous. The next day I moved to the Holiday Inn across the street. Anybody can park there for $20 a night. If you are staying at the Hilton that is the best thing to do. While the falls are beautiful and worth seeing there is little else to do in that area. All the restaurants are way way way overpriced and underwhelming. Kind of sad. If the restaurants were good and they had quality things to do I could see more people coming and staying longer but I guess Niagra Falls is ok with people just coming for a day or a night and leaving.

Loved this review. I was considering booking a room like this at HILTON MEADOWVALE for a birthday or a vip day for clients. Not sure now about that. I appreciate this review because I have been searching for real life reviews and video footage by guests, not the hotel. I definitely would have been dooped if I went with this option. I would love to see a review for HILTON MEADOWVALE Mississaga One room and Meadovale suite. By the way...Sterling Inn at Niagara Falls was great!

I stayed at The Oakes this summer. Beautiful view of both falls. Everything was expensive and run down. Parking not included was an extra $45 A chocolate bar at the hotel gift shop across the street was $10 The rooms at The Oaks have large 3 dimensional windows that offer really nice views. Going just before or after summer would save money and cut down on large crowds

How nostalgic. We had our prom in the ballroom there. It looks… exactly how I would have thought it would look back in 2014. It actually looks like they renovated downstairs more than the rooms. Which is disappointing because I loved the kitch of the downstairs lobby area. I’ll never forget casually waltzing down the side walk in out gowns to that cool catz trailer and getting some Jamaican pattys from mama. Vegas of the North my butt.

When you showed the original lobby it all came back to me. Such a shame the hotel is not how it used to be. I'll stick with the Sheraton when I'm looking for a fallsview room or the Kings Inn Motor Inn when I'm looking for a cheap spot.

I've been there recently for some shows at the OLG stage and have noticed the deteriorating conditions in some areas (not the OLG stage) on the second floor. Paint chipping, etc. I will never be able to stay in the presidential suite but if I paid for that I would not be happy! I'm a life long resident and was thinking of doing a room review (not the Presidential Suite lol) I'm pretty surprised. The valet parking is RIDICULOUS!! Just park at the casino and pay whatever the cost is when you leave, that's probably where valet takes your car anyway lol. Thanks for the video!!

We stayed here once in the 2000s. Our hotel down the road flooded, so we got put up here. They comped our parking and breakfast, which was nice. We were just in a standard falls view room, but the usual rack rate was $1400/night. I thought it was so cool when I was 17, but now it’s pretty sad to see what it’s become.

LOL this is wild! I literally just got home from a Disney World getaway and I paid less for 5 days than you paid for 1 night! And yes, I stayed at an on-site Disney hotel (Pop Century, so not the top-of-the-line ones, but still!). I had free parking, a newly renovated room, and the food was way cheaper and, based on reviews, way better than what you dealt with. Absolutely wild. Even at the Hard Rock Guitar Hotel near Miami (which is a top-of-the-line casino), their platinum suite with breakfast would be less than this lol

I’ve stayed here several times. I like it, and ( before Covid) great deals could be had. It’s a nice little getaway. And my hubby and I love Brasa. The food is so good. It’s very very expensive, and the food is rich. I personally can’t stomach it, and I’ve been sick all three times I’ve been. But I keep going back.
