Taeyeon is an amazing singer! She is one of the top soloists in Korea and is part of Girls' Generation (SNSD) which debuted in 2007 and was the top girl group back in the 2nd gen kpop. Since you've mentioned enjoying softer ballad songs, I suggest you listen to her busking from the program Begin Again 3. There are multiple clips uploaded on youtube where she sings "If", "Blue", "Time Spent Walking Through Memories", "Rain", "11:11" and she also covered songs "When We Were Young" by Adele (an absolutely phenomenal cover!!), "Slow Motion", "Fix My Makeup", "Bad Guy" and many more. I'm glad you noticed that she was holding back... because when she goes off... it's insane. She isn't known to be a belter like Ailee but she is controlled and poised. The single thing that make Taeyeon stands out among all other vocalist is her innate ability to convey emotions when she sings. This was very apparent to her senior/mentor while she was a trainee and he featured her in one of his song even before she debut. Throughout her career as the leader of SNSD, she was very well regarded as one of the vocal that transcend the kpop girl group tropes. This is further displayed in the incredible discography of all the OSTs she was featured on. This video simple is a appetizer for the expansive and versatile sounds of Taeyeon. There are way too many songs of hers that truly deserve to be in this performance.

The difference between Jessi and Taeyeon is not confidence… It’s cultural difference. Jessi was born and raised in America and Taeyeon was born and raised in Korea. In Korea acting like Jessi is not something the public likes. In Korea Taeyeon is super famous and also is like a goddes everyone likes her the whole nation adores her while Jessi recieved hate for how she acts. Plus i’d say Taeyeon is also pretty confident.

I wouldn't say memebrs choosing to focus on their solo carreers after 10 years as idols is 'mismanagement' exactly. Actually it's after 15-17 years if count the years they spent as trainees at SM. Seems totally normal to me. And the fact that SM supported the members who chose to leave and coordinated/produced a full album for their 15th anniversaty with all 8 is actually pretty impressive IMO. Not all companies would agree to that and I'm very happy it's becoming more common.

The most successful female soloist in Kpop that came from a girl group, one of the very few Kpop idols that has been looked up beyond Kpop but as an artist and singer in their home country.
