Maybe you're right but I think at this point Ste knows exactly what he's doing. At this point, he is racist. The grooming process involves him becoming a part of their organization and then doing the violent crimes but as far as Ste being a bigot and racist? At this point, this is all Ste. Also Ste's addictive personality has people running to his rescue all the time which is why he never learns. This falls into his addictive patterns. Ste is not a baby, he doesn't need to be rescued all the time. Ste is a fully functioning adult and it's about time he grew up. If he let go of his resentment, bigotry and racism long enough to open his eyes, no one could convince him to do the things he's doing. If this was another character, maybe I'd understand but this is Ste we're talking about. Ste doesn't WANT to change at this point. It's always something with Ste, I'm done making excuses for him. Maybe he has to grow up the hard way, because he refuses to grow up otherwise. Yes there is grooming but Ste was heading down this path before Jonny and the other fools ever entered his life so a part of it is him giving himself an excuse to do all the things he wanted to do in the first place without anyone correcting him. At some point, you've got to take responsibilities for own damn decisions. Otherwise, when are you going to stop falling into the same old patterns?

I agree that you can try but Leela shouldn't beat herself up if her efforts to save him fail. It's her responsibility to do something but his responsibility to change his behaviour, to admit his wrongs, to want to help himself is not also her responsibility. Humour me? If you're a disabled adult and you don't have hands to brush your teeth, someone may have to brush your teeth for you. If the person is about to brush your teeth and you clench your mouth shut, that person can try to get in there and brush it or try to talk you down, explain to you why it's important for you to brush your teeth before attempting to brush your teeth again. If on your next attempt to brush their teeth, they grab on to more than one of your fingers with all their might and pull until now you're bleeding, bones exposed, is it still your responsibility to brush their teeth for them or do they have to figure out a way to get their teeth brushed without your help or just don't get them brushed? Take a completely "abled" adult who has both hands, full function of those hands who refuse to brush their teeth. You explain to them all the reasons why they should brush their teeth. All the diseases they can contract from the harmful bacteria in their mouth, how it can affect their health in general and how they can pass that bacteria on to someone else and put them at risk for illness. They still refuse to brush their teeth. You put some toothpaste on a toothbrush and plead with them to brush their teeth, they reject it. You restrain them and forcibly brush their teeth which now has potentially become violent. The next day, the person still refuses to brush their teeth, is it your responsibility that their teeth gets brushed, or do you have to leave it to them? Is their health now your responsibility? As a matter of fact, is their potential future partner's health your responsibility? You can bring awareness to it but if their partner decides not to take care with their health, are they now your responsibility as well? My point is Leela, Tony, Perri, even young sweet Leah is trying to help "save him" and they can continue to try but at some point, it's no longer their responsibility to save him if he continues to reject their effort, because he's still holding on to that hate, bigotry and racism. It's their responsibility to protect themselves, protect and save each other, spread awareness and encourage each other to take responsibility for themselves and the people around them by educating themselves, building alliance if necessary, know what to be prepared for so that they can defend and protect themselves from a harmless group of people including Ste, who has little to no regard for them or himself. They can try to save him all they want, and that is good and necessary, yes, but no one can really save you but yourself, Ste needs to want to be "saved", he needs to want an out of the group. They can educate him and all but at the end of the day, the decision is up to him to make that he doesn't want to do this anymore. Unless you're going to kidnap him and throw away the key, never let him out again to protect him, I don't know how you can force someone to change something they don't want to change. And I doubt locking him away would be very helpful. It'd probably cause him more harm than good. I don't have to be right, and I'm completely okay with being wrong. But I'm learning myself that I have to take responsibilities for my own actions in every situation, even situations where I was in harm's way. And I'm just applying that to him as I would myself. Because in order to learn or my life to change, I have to commit to changing it, I can't keep blaming people for the path my life has been on for the last few years. I can put the blame where it's due for what happened but what I do now, that's my responsibility and that's something I had to be willing to learn. I'm just treating Ste as I'm treating myself. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I accept that. I just see what he's choosing to do and what is being chosen for him and I feel like he can do something if he wants because he's capable, but unless he's willing to learn, he'll continue to be led by his addictive behaviours, which now he's addicted to the support he's receiving from Jonny and the other fools.

That is a sweet sentiment and I do respect it but them locking him in the house against his will didn't help his addictive behaviour, it stopped him taking drugs, but he just moved on to another addiction. In his mind, he now understands that taking drugs is a bad thing, he didn't like the backlash he received he took it, he didn't want to live or like the way he felt when he took it and he didn't like that he couldn't care for his children when he took it. In this addictive behaviour, he has "support" for his bad behaviour, he's encouraged that his bad behaviour is good. when he hears that his behaviour is bad from all the other people who helped him before, all he can see is that they've "tried to control his life all along", now he feels in control, he feels capable and justified and he has his children. If they go down a similar route again, all he's going to learn is that his behaviour is bad and he shouldn't do it anymore and move on to another possibly more harmful addiction. For him to learn that he needs to stop his addictive behaviours and truly heal from them, he has to want to save himself, in my opinion. I guess we'll agree to disagree. I do respect your opinion though, personally I'm learning to release myself from that opinion which I also have held. I encourage you to uphold that sense of duty though, the world needs more people like you.

@Lima Neris I don't think them being straight in real life should affect the storyline. Both have played gay characters for years and have been good at it. Tony’s family, it’s « Shameless », but Hollyoaks version. She seems to explodes on all sides and the majority of her members is unscrupulous : 1) Lily passed away and Steven didn’t even attend the funeral. 2) Sinead finds herself in jail for lying to police while Laurie has sexually assaulted her under Tony’s roof for months without him knowing anything about it. 3) Steven had to get away from everyone because stupidity has invaded his mind. He’s a racist and he claims it proudly !? 4) Harry that Tony likes a little ? A lot ?Not at all?! is in a relationship, but has problems because of his appetite for sex ? The lie ? Misbah and Imran are not so innocent in all of this. Imran tried to kill Ste and burnt his business to the ground. What punishment did he face. Misbah operated on Teegan with a broken arm, after she was just beaten up by her son. She was not in the right mind to operate, what punishment did she get. Now as it relates to the racist storyline I am just sicken by it. However I can see why Ste was targeted and the reason he insist on not seeing how his behaviour can be taken as racist. Ste unlike Stuart n Jonny wants the Malik ti pay, not because they are muslims but because he believes that get away with doing bad things. Until Ste can see for himself that these people are really toxic. He won't change.

When a straight character falls in love with a person of the same sex it’s okay, but when a gay person falls in love with someone of the opposite sex it’s wrong? I don’t see gay-washing or straight-washing, all I see is the limitless bounds of love. It’s nice to see pansexuality play out, although I prefer no labels. Love isn’t black and white. Also I don’t see Harry being straight, there is more to the story line that they haven’t let on yet.

Maria Salazar You're completely missing the point. All of these people came out as gay within the show, and now suddenly Kyle is with a woman and Harry has had an affair with a woman. There are only 4 current gay residents, and 2/4 have suddenly turned straight, while the 3rd one (Ste) has become a racist. The 4th one (Scott) is the only one that has actually stuck by his sexuality, or stayed out of trouble. Hollyoaks have a history of straight-washing gay men. Either say they're bisexual from the start, or say they're gay and stop having them sleep with women! These storylines are becoming beyond ridiculous now.
