My guess is the show didn't want the the viewers to see JP answer his phone because that way they can reveal what happened down the line while keeping the viewers wondering in the mean time.Plus Hollyoaks might be thinking James Sutton could come back one day and if he does the show may not want to explain where Craig was because the viewers would have seen JP answer Craig's call.

Yes John Paul and Craig, it's always going to come back to them. I honestly don't know if I can continue to watch Hollyoaks without JP. It isn't going to be the same. I'm crying so hard right now, his face when he saw Craig was calling! I hope we get to see them together again one day, this isn't a goodbye forever just simply a farewell for now.

Well, now that was a way to leave a show ... when the phone rang I was thinking it was STE but when I saw Craig I literally audibly said OMG ... I will miss JohnPaul so ably portrayed by James Sutton and wish him well with his future endeavours. Maybe occasionally for some special occasion he will return for a short stint.
